You'll be working closely with our team to guide technical aspects through the entire project lifecycle-from design to construction and beyond. As a Project Engineer - Facilities, your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
You'll be a key player in supporting the execution of oil and gas facility projects, helping solve complex engineering challenges, and ensuring that everything we build meets the high expectations of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Engineering: You'll be deeply involved in developing and reviewing detailed engineering designs for facility projects, including oil processing plants, gas compression facilities, and water treatment systems. You'll work to ensure that everything is safe, practical, and in line with project goals.
- Owner's Perspective: Your experience from the owner's side will shine as you work with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure designs and construction are aligned with the client's objectives-whether that's on time, within budget, or with the right quality.
- Procurement Support: You'll collaborate with the procurement team to ensure we're selecting the right materials and services for the project, helping to review and evaluate supplier bids and make the best decisions for the project.
- Construction Guidance: During construction, you'll offer technical guidance and support to contractors, ensuring compliance with specifications, managing scope changes, and addressing field-engineering challenges.
- Ensuring Quality & Compliance: You'll play a key role in maintaining high standards by ensuring that all engineering work adheres to relevant codes and regulations such as CSA, ASME, API, and AER standards. Regular reviews and inspections will be part of your routine to maintain compliance.
- Scheduling & Resource Coordination: You'll work closely with the project manager and team to track progress, monitor timelines, and adjust resources as needed to make sure we're staying on schedule.
- Problem-Solving: Engineering problems can arise at any point. You'll be there to identify challenges early and develop practical solutions that keep the project moving forward without compromising on quality or safety.
- Documentation & Reporting: Keeping accurate records is key. You'll maintain detailed reports, drawings, and specifications, ensuring clear communication across the team and with our clients.
- Facility Commissioning & Start-Up: You will participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring system readiness, safety checks, and operational performance align with design intent.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with facility design, construction, and operations, implementing mitigation strategies to reduce impact.
- Environmental and Safety Compliance: Ensure all facilities meet environmental and safety regulations, working closely with HSE teams to integrate safety features and operational best practices into facility designs.
- Integration with Existing Infrastructure: Evaluate facility expansions and upgrades, ensuring compatibility with existing operational systems and infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical) with a focus on oil and gas facility projects.
- Experience: At least 6 years of engineering experience, specifically in facility projects, with a preference for those who have worked from the owner's side. Your experience in the energy sector-especially in both brownfield and greenfield projects-will be invaluable.
- Licensing: Professional Engineer, P.ENG with APEGA or EGBC.
Skills & Expertise:
- Owner's Side Experience: Your background in working with owners' teams will be essential to ensuring that projects align with the client's goals, budgets, and schedules.
- Technical Knowledge: You should have a strong understanding of facility engineering, including design, construction, commissioning, and start-up, and be familiar with codes and regulations such as ASME, API, CSA, and AER.
- Communication & Collaboration: You'll need to build strong relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders. Clear communication and teamwork will be key to your success.
- Problem-Solving: You'll need to think critically and offer creative solutions when engineering challenges arise.
- Software Proficiency: You should be comfortable with engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, P&ID), and be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word) for reporting. Familiarity with scheduling tools like MS Project or Primavera would be an asset.
