Job Description
Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
Shift: Days
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Responsibilities
The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and directly supervises the Desert Regional Medical Center accounting team. Controller insures that accounting and accounts payable functions are performed in compliance with Corporate Office policies. Controller will assist the CFO in reviewing managed care and other decision support analyses and related information. Will work as part of team with business development and department/service line leaders on formulation of assumptions, market analysis, volume projections, pro forma/IRR calculations, and drafting of executive summary and other supporting documents for equipment acquisitions, campus expansion, and new business development as needed. Provides close monitoring, analysis and communication of monthly operational performances of Cancer Center, clinics, other hospital departments as needed. Controller will provide feedback to department leaders following monthly close on labor and expense performance. Controller will monitor SOX and other internal control requirements to insure they are operational and that referral source payments are proper. Working with CFO will plan, lead, supervise, and participate in annual operating and capital budget preparation. Supervise and participate in quarterly reforecast preparation including financial projection, cash flow and risk/opportunities assessment. Also supervises monthly capital cash flow projections. Supervises monthly financial closing, reporting, and assist in preparation for monthly operations calls with Corporate Office. Controller will insure all balance sheet reconciliations are completed and approved by Controller timely (except for those reconciliations done by the Controller) and insure compliance with Corporate Office policies and GAAP. Oversee and participate in completion of monthly close report. Controller will work with department leaders and Corporate Office to insure that LMRS labor reporting system data and reporting is accurate, timely and consistent with budget. Attend promptly to the administrative details of the position including the signing of documents, preparation of reports, completion of performance appraisals and other employee-related actions. Other related duties and others as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
It is required that the ideal candidate have at least 10 years of progressive financial health care or equivalent experience in the areas of general accounting; financial systems; financial statement preparation; operational review and analysis; operating and capital budget development; good organizational skills; strong communication skills. For profit hospital, finance experience is preferred.
Personal Characteristics:
Unquestionable ethics, as well as style and substance that generates respect and credibility. Resilience to working under pressure. Demonstrated ability to motivate, challenge and develop professional staff.
Ability to work across functional lines to engage disparate resources to work together to achieve results.
Common sense with a solid generalist background. Ability to convert complex finance, operational, and compliance issues into terms and concepts that are easily disseminated throughout all levels of the organization.
Education Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA or CPA designation preferred.
