Organization's Summary Statement:

Reporting to the Director of the Institute for Systems Research (ISR), the Associate Director of Operations & Finance is responsible for all administrative oversight, financial planning and management for the ISR. In this capacity, the Director will act as an advisor to the Institute Director, assist in facilitating effective decisions, and coordinate and execute strategic initiatives. This positon will plan, manage and direct all financial, personnel, payroll, facilities, and operations related issues of the ISR (Budget-over $15 million, Payroll - approximately 300 individuals and Facilities - over 31,000 square feet.).

As part of senior staff team this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the ISR, interfacing with faculty, students, academic and administrative offices on and off campus. The Associate Director will oversee and manage all financial aspects of the ISR including reconciliation and reporting, manage all aspects of ISR payroll and personnel, and oversee the planning, management, and utilization of space and facilities.

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. The candidate will be required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Preferences:
Extensive experience in contract management, budgeting and financial planning.
Experience in a higher education.
Experience with a wide range of computer software, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing and internet-based and cloud-based office and collaboration systems.
Experience with forecasting systems, project management software systems, Gantt charts, customer relationship management systems and other tools for fiscal tracking and project coordination.
Experience with tools and terms related to government-sponsored research awards and tracking, including grants.gov, Fastlane, MIPRs, and the ability to create statements of work and task orders.
Familiarity with State and University procedures, and with industrial sponsored research; ability to effectively work with university faculty, staff, administrators, and other campus officials.
Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously, strong organization skills; strong supervisory skills, including strong knowledge of, and experience with, an employee performance review and development system; ability to balance workload amount unit personnel.
Ability to set priorities and work towards these priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years of professional budget, finance, accounting, human resources, or operation management experience. Two (2) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of accounting systems, financial reporting, and budget preparation and analysis.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
Ability to acquire, apply and expand knowledge of the University's policies and operating details for sponsored programs.
