The Opportunity:
We are seeking a School Counsellor to work in our Senior and Middle School, specifically with our Grade 9 and 10 students. This is a full-time permanent role, which includes being on campus Monday to Friday.
As a member of the Grade 9-10 Student Experience team, the School Counsellor supports students with academic planning, social-emotional learning (SEL) and well-being. With strong relational, communication and organizational skills, and ability to build a caring rapport with students, the Counsellor will partner with colleagues across the school and will report to the Assistant Head, Student Experience, Grades 9-10.

With strong relational, communication and organizational skills, and ability to build a caring rapport with students, the Counsellor will partner with colleagues across the school and will report to the Assistant Head, Student Experience, Grades 9-10.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide individual and small group counselling to meet the academic, social, emotional and well-being needs of students
- Liaise and collaborate with teachers, social workers, university counsellors, nurses, students, parents and administrators in supporting student well-being and growth
- Participate in Parent-Teacher and/or Counsellor-Parent interviews
- Guide students in planning their academic pathway and selecting suitable courses by providing expertise on graduation and program requirements
- Liaise with parents and other community members as needed in service of student well-being
- Support students with self-awareness, social and relationships skills
- Support students with self-management skills such as organization and time management
- Develop, collaborate and deliver SEL curricular lessons and workshops for students
- Actively participate on interdisciplinary teams to facilitate care and support plans for learning or social-emotional needs
- Counsel students on behaviour, school progress, personal/social issues regarding home, family and peer concerns
- Actively participate on problem solving and intervention teams to facilitate early involvement and resolution to learning or social problems
- Write counsellor reports and/or letters where required
- Build curriculum and teach students distress tolerance, self-motivation and stress management skills
- Assist in planning and participate in parent and employee well-being education sessions
- Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB, CEFR and Ministry of Education curriculum, ensuring differentiation
- Keep abreast of current resources, research, and best practices in support of student well-being
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Passionate educator with 5+ years' of high school counselling experience and has Additional Qualifications in Guidance and/or Counselling
- Knowledge of the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is a strong asset
- Relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice with a commitment to DEI
- Adept at developing strong and caring relationships with students
- Effective collaborative with team members across the faculty
- Confident with and at ease partnering with families
- An awareness of or experience overseeing educational opportunities offered by external organizations
- An awareness of or experience overseeing scholarship opportunities
- Proficient with relevant technology and thrives in an innovative environment
- Belief in and alignment with Branksome Hall's mission, vision and values
- Passionate about teaching and being in service of students and the community
