Position Summary

Carlyle Aviation Partners ("CAP") is a leading multi-strategy institutional investment manager with demonstrated capabilities and expertise across all segments of the aviation industry. CAP is currently raising CAPF VII, its seventh commingled aviation fund, which focuses on new and used aviation assets. As of 30 June 2024, CAP has 371 aircraft placed with 110 lessees worldwide and assets under management of approximately US$12.2 billion. CAP is positioned within The Carlyle Group's Global Credit business segment.

Position Summary

This role, based in Miami, involves the day-to-day technical management of aircraft fleet portfolios, project management and oversight of the various third-party technical consultants while supporting delivery, redelivery, and transition of both new and used aircraft (active Fleet Management). This includes, but is not limited to, the preparation, review, and negotiation of term sheets, LOIs and aircraft lease documentation (technical provisions) as well as the provision of support to in-house marketing, legal, finance and contracts teams. This position reports to the Senior Vice President & Head of Fleet Management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and monitor all aircraft assets assigned to you that are on lease, in storage or transitioning through maintenance and transitioning to the next Lessee
  • Schedule (and attend as needed) kick-off meetings with lessee returning an Aircraft or an Engine
  • Schedule (and attend as needed) initial inspections with next lessee of a returning Aircraft
  • Ensure consultants are managed appropriately and assigned to projects as needed
  • Provide a detailed delivery plan encompassing all the Lessee's maintenance, modification, and reconfiguration and repainting requirements
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating aircraft maintenance and modification projects
  • Compile and manage budget for aircraft in storage, transitioning through maintenance and transitioning from and to the next Lessee
  • Responsible for ensuring the aircraft complies with the negotiated delivery conditions
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate LOI's (as generated by respective deal teams) for pipeline production and transitioning Aircraft covering delivery condition, redelivery, maintenance reserve calculations and A/C compliance with Lessee specifications
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate draft lease agreement for technical correctness and participate in Lessor/Lessee negotiations for transitioning Aircraft covering delivery condition, redelivery, maintenance reserve calculations and A/C compliance with Lessee specifications
  • Research and analyze Lessee, potential Lessee and other Carlyle Aviation departmental enquiries or technical aspect/condition/requirement of a pipeline or transition aircraft. Contribute to Approval Memo construction
  • Assist Senior Management with commercial decisions regarding the future course of life for the asset
  • Monitoring of fleet technical issues e.g., SB/AD's or other, which may impact asset values
  • Assist in the definition of lease delivery conditions, lessor contributions towards maintenance events, definition of qualifying maintenance events and redelivery conditions
  • Monitor and communicate with other SVP/VP Technical, SVP/VP Powerplant and Third-Party vendors on all lease return transitions
  • Oversight and active asset management of the technical condition of the fleet including inspections, technical due diligence on airline clients, approval of maintenance work and associated reserve claims ensuring maintenance of asset value
  • Visits, as required with the Commercial/Marketing team member(s) to the prospective Lessee/Purchaser to obtain advanced understanding of the technical requirements and to negotiate the aircraft delivery conditions
  • Assume responsibility for Departmental activities in absence of Senior Vice President & Head of Fleet Management as and when requested
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Vice President & Head of Fleet Management


Qualifications

Requirements

Education & Certificates

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university


Professional Experience

  • 15+ years' experience
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Must possess a knowledge of narrow and wide body commercial aircraft, engines and related systems and parts
  • Experience in negotiating aircraft and engine contracts, including purchases, sales, and lease contracts
  • Must have an excellent technical insight of commercial aircraft, engines of all major aircraft families, and understanding of the aircraft leasing industry

  • Fluent in English; additional languages a plus
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment

Benefits/Compensation

The compensation range for this role is specific to Miami and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $200,000 to $220,000.

In addition to the base salary, the hired professional will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package spanning retirement benefits, health insurance, life insurance and disability, paid time off, paid holidays, family planning benefits and various wellness programs. Additionally, the hired professional may also be eligible to participate in an annual discretionary incentive program, the award of which will be dependent on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
