Job Description
SUMMARYOFESSENTIALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
- In conjunction with the Inpatient Operations Assistant Director, assists in the supervision of the daily operations of the inpatient pharmacy drug distribution system.
- In addition to performing the duties of Assignment Level I at a more responsible level, the following are typical tasks performed as Assignment Level II.
- Coordinates and/or supervises inpatient pharmacy services, including main pharmacy, hyperalimentation, stockroom and narcotics
- Works closely with staff to implement and maintain quality improvement measures.
- Coordinates and participates in the orientation and training of new staff members or staff members being trained in new areas.
- Monitors, evaluates and addresses staff performance and follows appropriate disciplinary proceedings, as necessary including enforcement of time and attendance policies.
- Prepares unit work schedule and adjusts assignments to facilitate workflow and ensure that work is completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures staff compliance with regulatory agency and hospital rules and regulations.
- Responsible for the maintenance of adequate quantities of medication and other supplies in the Pharmacy unit.
- Identifies and coordinates learning opportunities in conjunction with the clinical pharmacists and directors.
- Monitors the surroundings to ensure that the department is organized, clean and safe.
- Routinely audits pharmacy activities, including distribution, prepacking, ordering and verification.
- Works to resolve problems independently and escalates matters that require the attention of the directors and other staff members.
- Ensures adequate communication and coordination between staff and management, units of operation, and tours through the use of huddles, email, schedules, policies and meetings.
- Provides support and supervision of technician staff in the provision of pharmacy services related to their work to ensure safety and efficiency.
- In conjunction with the Assistant Director, manages the hyperalimentation pharmacy to ensure safe and timely compounding and distribution of sterile products. Duties include organizing workflow, supervising pharmacists and technicians, enforcing regulations and hospital policy and compounding if required.
- Responsible for extensive knowledge and the implementation of downtime procedures.
- Serves as a professional and technical resource for medical professionals in specialty area (s).
