Lifetouch is looking for an outstanding, collaborative, and strategic attorney to manage employment law and consumer litigation for the company. This role will report to the Sr. Director, Associate General Counsel, who leads the Lifetouch legal team and will be the primary point of contact and legal partner to the Lifetouch Human Resources team. In this role you will provide practical, commercially focused and risk-weighted advice on a broad range of employment, benefits, and related compliance matters and oversee the company's employment and consumer litigation. You will partner with the business to manage complex legal projects to reduce the company's employment and litigation risk profile, including trainings and process changes.
The successful candidate for this role will have deep experience in employment counseling and litigation, be excited to partner with the business to achieve the best outcomes for the company, and have outstanding communication, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills. We value collaboration and collegiality, so you should feel comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders, both in Legal and the business. This role will have a direct report, so you should bring a coach/player management skillset. What You'll Do Here:
The Assistant General Counsel (Principal Corporate Counsel), Employment Law & Litigation may perform the following duties:
Advise on employment matters, both domestically and internationally, including state and federal compliance (e.g., ADA, ADEA, Title VII, PDA, FMLA, FLSA, WARN Act, USERRA and state/municipal equivalents), disciplinary actions, wage and hour issues, investigations, disability and religious accommodations, positions eliminations and group workforce reductions
Support resolution of employment arbitrations and litigation matters, including the selection and management of outside counsel
Support resolution of federal, state and local agency claims and charges
Respond to day-to-day policy issues raised within the organization and, according to circumstances, provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolution
Review, interpret and make recommendations to stakeholders for improvement of HR policies, procedures and programs
Manage a wide variety of employment related disputes and litigation matters, including class actions and workers comp matters
Draft employee-facing policies, handbooks and other resources, enhance our checklists, processes, templates and forms
Advise on deferred compensation plans and programs, employee health and safety programs, and employee privacy issues
Design and present training on employment law matters
Actively monitor new laws, regulations and decisions affecting the substantive areas of employment law and litigation and provide strategic advise to the Legal and HR teams
Maintain a thorough knowledge of industry-leading practices and trends
Draft and negotiate offer letters and employment-related agreements, including severance, restrictive covenant, retention, and other agreements
Provide employment law support for mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures
What You'll Bring:
At least six years of relevant general employment law experience partnering with business, HR and legal stakeholders on employment law issues, including investigations, terminations and reductions in force and implementing or improving the process related to those matters
Experience with hands-on management of employment litigation matters across a variety of areas
Knowledge and experience with California employment law and litigation
Experience designing and delivering training on employment topics to non-lawyers
Experience identifying relevant best practices and demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal/relationship-building skills, including the ability to communicate legal considerations to non-lawyers
Highly responsive, flexible, collaborative with a "dive in, get it done" attitude
Ability to adapt to multiple and changing demands and juggle different priorities
Capacity to multi-task and handle unanticipated situations and effectively work under pressure
Ability to influence and provide timely and effective legal and business advice, support and training at all organizational levels
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Good business judgment and sound decision-making
Depending on where the position is located, travel to California and Minnesota may be required. Additional travel may be required
Must have a JD degree from an accredited law school
Must be a member in good standing of the applicable US state bar

Have experience with hands-on management of consumer litigation claims and matters
Have experience managing paralegals or other team members
Have experience managing outside counsel on employment-related matters and litigation
Are familiar with workers' compensation and auto/general liability matters
Have experience partnering with global stakeholders on employment law issues in Canada
This role can be hybrid near our Eden Prairie, MN office or remote for the right candidate

The compensation package for this role is based on multiple factors, such as job level, responsibilities, location, and candidate experience. The base pay ranges included below are specific to the locations listed, and may not be applicable to other locations.
California : [$156,000 - $221,000]
Connecticut and New York: [$156,000 - $202,250]
Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and Washington: [$156,000 - $187,250]
Nevada: [$146,750 - $202,250]
Maryland and New Jersey: [$168,500 - $202,250]
Hawaii : [$146,750 - $176,000]
