Job Description

The Director of Nursing Research, Innovation, and Academic Partnerships is responsible for advancing the culture of nursing research, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and process improvement and academic collaboration within the organization. This role focuses on fostering innovative approaches to patient care, promoting scholarly work among nursing staff, and building strategic academic partnerships to enhance professional development and workforce capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Evidence-Based Practice
  • Lead initiatives to integrate research, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and process improvement into clinical and operational processes.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff in designing, conducting, and disseminating research studies and quality improvement projects.
  • Oversee Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions for nursing-related research.
  • Oversee Scientific Review Committee.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement innovative care models and practices.

Innovation
  • Drive innovation in nursing practice and patient care delivery through strategic initiatives and pilot programs.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and new methodologies to improve patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a resource and champion for staff-driven innovations, guiding project development and implementation.

Academic Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with academic institutions to facilitate student clinical placements, internships, and residency programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee faculty appointments, joint research projects, and collaborative educational initiatives.
  • Support staff pursuing advanced education and certifications through academic partnerships and scholarships.

Leadership and Strategic Planning
  • Develop and implement the organization's strategic vision for nursing research and innovation.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Chief Nursing Executive on research, education, and innovation initiatives.
  • Participate in nursing and organizational leadership councils to align nursing goals with broader organizational objectives.

Education and Professional Development
  • Organize and lead workshops, conferences, and training sessions on research methodologies and evidence-based practice.

Promote professional growth by encouraging participation in scholarly presentations, publications, and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
  • A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
  • A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.


  • Department Preferences

    • Current RN license; Certification in Nursing Research or related specialty preferred.
    • Doctorate in Nursing (PhD or DNP) or a related field. Phd preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in nursing research, innovation, or academic partnerships.
    • Proven track record of leading successful research projects and fostering academic partnerships.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
    • Knowledge of healthcare innovation trends and evidence-based practice principles.
    • Strategic thinking and planning.
    • Leadership and mentorship.
    • Collaboration and partnership-building.
    • Project management and organizational skills.
