Description
The Purpose

Provide high-quality instruction meeting the occupational and general educational needs of the students. Areas of instruction include GIS and GNSS, Surveying, Hydrology and Erosion Control, Civil/Surveying CAD, HIghway Technology, Basic Structural Concepts, Construction Materials and Methods, Project Management, Soils and Foundations, Environmental Technology, and related topics. Classes may include curriculum, continuing education, workforce training, or other courses, and may be scheduled during the day, evening, weekend, face-to-face, online, or hybrid/blended format.

Examples of Duties
What You'll be Doing

Instruction
Provide quality instruction in the Civil Engineering Technology program
Assist with instruction in the Environmental Engineering Technology program
Assist with instruction in any Engineering program at both Henderson and Transylvania County campuses
Prepare adequately for all classes assigned, and conduct all classes in a professional manner
Mentor adjunct faculty as appropriate by sharing information, advice, and teaching materials
Investigate distance learning delivery for course materials and offer distance learning options where practical
Follow all college, department, and course syllabi guidelines for the curriculum for the grading process, class content, on-line class instruction, class hours, and attendance
Curriculum Planning and Support
Assist with the establish of educational pathways with high schools and universities
Participate in the review of curriculum program courses including revisions and updates to course content as necessary
Implement program improvements based upon data-driven results
Develop and assess program and student learning outcomes
Schedule courses with approval of the Chair to ensure students can progress through the program in an orderly and timely sequence
Maintain and submit accurate records and reports in a timely manner to the appropriate office
Maintain all classrooms and labs in an orderly, clean, and safe working environment, while ensuring that all related equipment is maintained within budget constraints

Student Engagement
Advise and register students while demonstrating genuine interest for the general welfare of all students
Promote, create, implement, and actively participate in Advanced Technologies' recruitment and retention strategies
Provide necessary support for and referrals to the College's educational support programs and functions

Professionalism and Partnerships
Maintain a professional demeanor regarding teaching, student learning, and student advising
Build and maintain professional relationships among all internal and external college stakeholders
Partner with local manufacturers and area industries for a better understanding of their applicable needs, then transferring those needs into the program curriculum
Recruit industry members for the program's Industry Advisory Committee, and schedule and conduct meetings at least once each year
Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies

Competencies
Earn and maintain the necessary industry-recognized instructor/program certifications and accreditations.
Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare budget requests to fund supplies and equipment needed for the program and utilize E-procurement.
Participate in college standing and/or ad hoc committees as assigned
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications
Education

Required- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering field

Preferred- Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field, or a Professional Engineer licensure, or Surveyor's licensure. Master's degree must show a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in an engineering-related area. Licensure must be current and active.

Experience

Documented practical (hands-on) and verifiable industry experience in Civil Engineering, GIS and GNSS, Surveying, Hydrology and Erosion Control, Software (specifically AutoCad, Civil3D, and/or ArcGIS), HIghway Technology, Basic Structural Concepts, Construction Materials and Methods, Project Management, Soils and Foundations, Environmental Technology, and related topics are required.

Previous documented college teaching or training experience is a plus.

The ability to use Learning Management Software (LMS) would be beneficial.

Skills and the Know-How

The selected faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective leadership, excellent time management skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365 or similar products, SharePoint, database systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), College email, Google Workspace, College website, E-Procurement, and other computer applications associated with the position.

The selected faculty member must be able to effectively and successfully teach the skills needed to meet local industry needs.

Physical Demands

Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. Work outdoors in inclement weather, must be capable of doing physical labor.

Summer Time Schedule
Enjoy a 3 Day weekend during the Summer! The summer 4 - day work week will begin in May and will end in July. The hours of operation will be 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday. Off on Friday!
