The Department of Revenue is looking for multiple experienced Revenue Auditor 5s to join a team of auditors in the Corporation Section of the Audit Bureau. These auditors are responsible for full-scope audits of Wisconsin corporation franchise/income taxes. These positions are being offered in our Edina, MN and Glen Ellyn, IL offices.

Position Summary

This is a specialist level position responsible for auditing multi-state corporations for income and franchise taxes. Conduct audits that involve the most complex issues and work with taxpayers to resolve complex or disputed audit issues. You will spend most of your time performing the following responsibilities:

  • Examine the books and records of corporations to determine the correct tax liability.
  • Prepare electronic workpapers and reports setting forth adjustments to reflect the required correct tax liability

Salary Information

Starting salary will be between $42.00 and $51.85 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits.

Sign-on bonus of $3000 for eligible new hires.

For current State employees, pay on hire will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

The Revenue Auditor 5 position is in pay schedule-pay range 07-02.

Job Details

Background Checks: Due to the nature of this position, final candidates will be subject to criminal background, fingerprint, and tax compliance checks.

I-9 Requirements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time. Remote Work/Telework: This position is eligible for remote work/telework up to 60%. After completion of probation, telework may gradually increase up to 60% based on employee performance and work unit needs.

Probationary Period: A 24-month probationary period may be required.

Travel: This position requires occasional travel with some overnight stays. A valid driver's license and ability to use a personal vehicle for travel is required. Reimbursement of travel expenses is available per travel guidelines.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting or equivalent work experience (e.g., professional experience auditing accounting records and/or procedures, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), or a combination of academic preparation and professional auditing experience, etc.); and
  • Experience auditing Wisconsin corporation franchise/income tax returns; and
  • Experience researching complex tax issues.


In addition to the minimum qualifications, well qualified applicants will have the following experience:

  • Training or presenting tax or other technical topics to individuals or groups in a professional or academic setting.
