Description
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, Fiction Writing, tenured/tenure-track, continuing, 9-month appointment.

The target salary offer for this position is $74,000.00 to 100,000.00 annually at full time. Actual salary for part-time appointments will be prorated based on the percentage FTE of the appointment.
Examples of Duties
Teach undergraduate fiction classes, graduate workshops, and seminars in fiction and/or creative activities related to digital narrative, emphasizing the development of students' craft and writing skills through thoughtful instruction and mentorship. Applicants will be responsible for maintaining an active independent research/creative activity agenda relevant to the discipline and service activities to assist the School.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Completed MFA in fiction, and/or PhD in Creative Writing (fiction) by date of hire. Candidates must have at least one published or accepted book of fiction, and must have experience teaching fiction writing classes.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching fiction writing classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to contribute to an emerging program in digital narrative, broadly-defined: podcasting, game scripting, and/or other forms of online/digital publication.

The School of Literature, Writing, and Digital Humanities is home of the English Major at SIU Carbondale, in all its exciting permutations. We have separate specializations in Literary Analysis, Creative Writing, Digital Narrative, Teacher Education, and Public Writing. We also have a thriving, fully-funded MFA program, from which our students have gone on to publish widely and win major literary prizes, and a state-of-the-art digital lab (CVEX: https://www.cvex.ai/) that houses our digital narrative specialization. In addition, our program publishes the nationally-recognized Crab Orchard Review, and the undergraduate-produced magazine Grassroots. This inherently interdisciplinary environment fosters an array of creative collaborations and innovations across traditional and emerging fields. Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a Carnegie Doctoral Research University offering 200+ undergraduate degrees, minors, and specializations, 79 master's degrees, and 40 doctoral degrees. Our main campus spans 1,136 acres, with additional acreage in University Farms, Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center, and other facilities.
