Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under supervision of an assigned Attending Physician, the Physician Assistant will support Primary Care Providers (PCPs) in the care of a continuity panel of the PCPs patients with an emphasis on health care maintenance and completion of prior authorization requests.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver medical services within the scope of approved privileges, including but not to:
  • Eliciting a detailed and accurate history and performing an appropriate physical examination; Reviewing all pertinent EFR data.
  • Developing assessments and therapeutic plans, and reviewing ongoing patient care; Initiating consultations and referrals.
  • Instructing and counseling patients, families, and significant others about preventative care, medical problems, treatments, medications, and other primary care issues using, as appropriate, motivational interviewing skills.
  • Counseling and guiding patients/families to develop favorable attitudes toward healthcare, healthcare maintenance, and encourage practices that promote health and well-being.
  • Assist in medically-based patient communication, via MyChart, telephone, or in-person, as needed including but not limited to, answering patient medical advice questions and following-up results with patients of the PCP.
  • Order and facilitate health care maintenance tests, including but not limited to age-appropriate cancer screenings and immunizations.
  • Process prior authorizations for medications, imaging studies, durable medical equipment and other items at the direction of the PCP.
  • Provide compassionate care for patients, families, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Consistently work well with team members, contribute a positive attitude, and support a collaborative work environment to drive collective success.
  • Record all patient interactions in the EER in a timely manner.
  • Advise collaborating providers of emergent and non-emergent situations that may require follow-up.
  • Engage in departmental and/or divisional orientation and the
  • skills development of new staff as required at NYC Health + Hospitals.
  • Adhere to NYC Health + Hospitals and facility-specific policies and protocols (including but not limited to policies on clinical workflows and human resources).
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and execution of technical skills appropriate to the diagnosis and treatment of disease within established protocols.
  • Fulfill all compliance standards and requirements (including but not limited to annual physical assessments, fraud and 111PAA training, other required training, and fire drill participation).
  • Ensure that credentials are kept current.
  • Engage in departmental meetings, team meetings, interdisciplinary or community committees, as well as Peer Review and Performance Improvement meetings and activities as required.
  • Demonstrate a consistent level of performance and productivity.
  • Work in-person or remotely as determined by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as needed


Minimum Qualifications
1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; and,
2. Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); and,
3. Two years of full time, satisfactory clinical experiences as a Physician Assistant.
