The Immigration Attorney will provide direct legal representation to clients in a variety of immigration matters, including but not limited to naturalization, family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and removal defense. This position will also support staff training, legal research, and accreditation efforts for non-attorney representatives.
Responsibilities
Legal Representation & Client Services
- Provide direct representation in immigration cases, including consultations, case assessments, and legal filings.
- Prepare and file applications, petitions, and supporting documentation for clients.
- Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant agencies.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, and briefs as needed.
- Ensure casework compliance with all applicable legal and ethical standards.
Program & Staff Support
- Provide legal oversight and guidance to DOJ-accredited representatives and legal staff.
- Assist in staff training, professional development, and accreditation support.
- Conduct community outreach and presentations on immigration law and legal rights.
- Stay current on immigration laws, policies, and procedures to ensure best practices in legal service delivery.
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate client records and case notes using case management software.
- Ensure compliance with program policies, funder requirements, and agency standards.
- Participate in grant reporting and program evaluation as needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in any U.S. state (Nebraska license preferred but not required).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in immigration law preferred.
- Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
- Commitment to serving vulnerable populations with cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Fluency in Spanish required.
Work Environment & Schedule
- This is an in-office position at 5211 S 31st St, Omaha, NE 68107.
- Standard work schedule is Monday-Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours as needed for community events or client needs.
