Mission or Goal of Unit: Pursue the Research, Clinical, and Education Missionsof the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, andPalliative Care. Through bench research,clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, ourscientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing andcontrolling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physiciansand scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside asquickly and safely as possible. Throughour training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physiciansto further advance science and practice.

Chief Purpose of this position: This position will have a role in Leading thePalliative care program/Section. This position will have a role in advancing the clinical,research, and teaching missions and will be expected to work collaborativelywith other members of the department and Massey Cancer Center.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows whilein the clinic and on the inpatient service.

Research | Reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications,presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academicorganizations, are expected as well as active participation as a scientificmember of the department and Massey Cancer Center.

Service | It is expected that the person in this position willbe active in decreasing health disparities in the community served by Massey/VCU.

Clinical | Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/or seespatients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on supportive care.

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) | Serves as the sectionchief of palliative care, medical director, palliative care, and programdirector of the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board certified or eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Eligible for Virginia licensure
  • Evidence of accomplishment during medical school, residency, fellowship, and academic career and leadership experience within an Academic Palliative Program
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
