A+ Charter Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced School Resource Officer (SRO) to join our team. The SRO will serve as a vital member of our school community, ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. This position is through the Stronger Connections Grant through the Arizona Department of Education.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Campus Security: Patrol school grounds and facilities to prevent unauthorized access, trespassing, and other security breaches. Respond promptly to any security concerns or incidents that arise during school hours or at school-sponsored events.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a first responder in emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, fire alarms, and lockdown procedures. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Conflict Resolution: Mediate disputes and conflicts among students and staff members in a fair and impartial manner. Provide guidance and support to promote conflict resolution skills and positive peer relationships.
  • Law Enforcement Liaison: Serve as a liaison between the school administration and local law enforcement agencies. Collaborate with law enforcement personnel on safety initiatives, crime prevention programs, and emergency response protocols.
  • Student Engagement: Build positive relationships with students through regular interactions, mentoring, and participation in school activities. Serve as a role model and mentor, providing guidance on decision-making, conflict resolution, and responsible citizenship.
  • Safety Education: Develop and deliver safety education programs for students, staff, and parents on topics such as bullying prevention, drug awareness, and personal safety. Conduct drills and training exercises to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of security incidents, disciplinary actions, and other relevant information. Prepare detailed reports as required by school policies and regulatory agencies.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Certification as a law enforcement officer by the appropriate state or local authority.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a school or educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures related to school safety and security.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and make sound decisions under stress.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.


Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, stand, and patrol school grounds and facilities for extended periods.
  • Perform some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling (up to 40 lbs. and above).
  • Capacity to restrain individuals if necessary, including the ability to use physical force and defensive tactics as required by law enforcement protocols.
  • Stamina and endurance to work long hours and respond to emergencies during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capacity to maintain peak performance over extended shifts and during physically demanding situations, including high-stress incidents and crisis situations.
  • Work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Ability to approach emotionally charged situations with balance and empathy.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have unaided or aided hearing ability to receive information through listening in a noisy environment.
  • Able to give information through speaking in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Salary

$130,000 - $135,000 per year
