Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the Howard University Faculty Practice Plan, the Chief of Staff (COS) supports mission critical functions of overseeing human resources, procurement, legal, physician contracts and business development operations for the Faculty Practice Plan. The COS plays a pivotal role in organizational operations, budget planning, workforce development, personnel management, and human capital strategy for the Faculty Practice Plan. This position is crucial for making high-level decisions, developing strategies, anticipating problems, and removing barriers to ensure the success of the Faculty Practice Plan.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure physician contracts are aligned with AAMC Compensation Model for the College of Medicine and MGMA wRVU productivity model for the Faculty Practice Plan
  • Work with Director of Finance to develop 5-year break-even strategy for each physician contract
  • Review letter of offers (LOOs) for each physician hire and advise Chief Executive Officer of compliance with Management Service Agreement Standards
  • Manage procurement vendor and supplier relationships
  • Prepare new supplier registration and contracts for Office of General Counsel review/approval
  • Redline contracts for business development of the Faculty Practice Plan for Office of General Counsel review/approval
  • Review/audit job descriptions for Faculty Practice Plan staff positions
  • Maintain Faculty Practice Plan position control chart
  • Manage/audit repository of Faculty Practice Plan human resources policies
  • Serve as proxy to the Chief Executive Officer for Compliance, Legal, Procurement and Human Resources leadership meetings
  • Support Faculty Practice Plan Business Development Initiatives by managing stakeholder relationships
  • Engage with DC, MD and VA government for health policy matters and expansion
  • Support philanthropic efforts for the Faculty Practice Plan


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Policy or Juris Doctorate (or equivalent degree) preferred.
  • At least 5+ years direct experience of business development, contract review, budget management, procurement management, government operations, executive leadership or non-profit leadership required.
  • Proven track record of managing business operations in a complex organization.
  • Ability to coordinate fundraising efforts with academic operations and financial priorities.
  • Skilled in building and guiding complex, functionally diverse teams.
  • Expertise in communications, change management, and advancement.


Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $154,545 - $170,000
