The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Tax Manager, FInancial Services [R0146373]

ROLE of the POSITION

The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with applicable federal, state, local tax laws and regulations as well as State of Nevada and NSHE policies and procedures. This position will provide expertise and direction by supporting UNLV campus in oversight of tax reporting, policy development, and providing guidance on tax-related matters across the institution. The tax manager's responsibilities will include overseeing 1098-T forms, 1099 forms, 990 forms, unrelated business income, and determining the classification of independent contractors versus employees, along with other tax-related duties.

The Tax Manager works collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory agencies to minimize tax risks and optimize tax strategies. This position is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to attend training or conferences. This role may require extended hours during peak reporting periods.

The Tax Manager is the primary point of contact for working with external regulatory agencies and tax advisors. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Financial Services and Controller.

Key responsibilities of the University's Controller's office include:
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance
  • General Accounting operations
  • Accounts payable and Student accounts receivable
  • Payroll and tax compliance
  • Internal controls and financial risk management


The Controller's Office collaborates with various departments, including Human Resources, Student Financial Services, the Budget Office, and external partners such as auditors, donors, and governmental agencies. By fostering transparency and efficiency, the office plays a key role in the university's financial health and operational excellence.

Dedicated to providing responsive and professional financial services, the Controller's Office strives to support the university community by delivering innovative solutions, enhancing financial processes, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance or related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 3 to 5 years experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 to 7 years experience.
  • Experience with tax laws and tax compliance.
  • Experience in higher education
  • CPA license

SALARY

Salary range is $82,408 - 105,246, or commensurate with the labor market.
