Job Description

Assisting the Lab Medical and Administrative Directors of Pathology with technical and administrative laboratory functions and interrelationships with other stakeholders. Maintains full responsibility for quality, timeliness, and accuracy of work, procedures, personnel, and costs containment initiatives. Formulates goals, assigns objectives, helps to establish standards of practice, ensures continuity of services, plus all related technical functions. Assists the Lab Medical and Administrative Directors of Pathology with operational trouble-shooting and coordination of all areas for efficient and compliant operations.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in the Management of daily operations of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, which includes: Blood; Chemistry; Hematology; Special Hematology/Coagulation; Microbiology; Molecular Virology;
  • Autopsy Service; Histology; OB/GYN Pathology; Surgical Pathology; and the 7W Special Pathogens lab
  • Jointly responsible for directing complex departments with PS and OTPS budgets
  • Major tasks, duties and responsibilities include; Strategic Planning, Improving Patient Access, Budgeting, Personnel
  • Management, Regulatory Compliance, Quality Improvement, Referral Services, Contract Management,
  • Procurement of
  • Capital Equipment, Complaints Resolution
  • Works with lab section directors to provides technical oversight in the department
  • Serves as the lab safety officer and is responsible for compliance with all regulations and standards
  • Adheres to guidelines as outlined by the appropriate Federal, State, and City regulatory agencies
  • Jointly ensures policies and procedures are developed, implemented, reviewed and updated in order to ensure constant compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); United States Food & Drug Administration, and all regulatory agencies guidelines and standards.
  • Jointly responsible for developing and maintaining a dashboard for daily operations
  • Works with the Quality Unit to develop and manage strong auditing process to ensure compliance with department standards and regulatory agencies
  • Serves as laboratory liaison on hospital committees including but not limited to Special Pathogens an
  • Environment of Care.
  • Oversees execution of the courier service contract and deliverables
  • Works with Pathology Business Manager and the Lab Administrator to review expenditures and ensure actual performance is in line with established budget and project needs for the rest of the year
  • Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering quality services, and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality standards in the area of customer service.
  • Act as a role model for staff on responsiveness to customer satisfaction issues, routinely meeting exceeding customer expectations


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in biological or chemical sciences, clinical/medical
laboratory sciences/technology, hospital administration, health care planning, business administration or an
approved related program, and four (4) years of progressively responsible laboratory or blood bank quality,
laboratory research, or laboratory testing experience; or
2. A Bachelor's degree in one of the disciplines listed in "1" above, and six (6) years of experience, as described
in "1" above.
