The Automation Engineer will be responsible for leading plant automation strategies, while integrating with internal and external resources on the design, installation, and commissioning of new automated systems. This role collaborates with engineers and operations personnel to support current automated systems while leading the future state of the manufacturing process.

Prime Responsibilities and Major Factors in Evaluating Performance:
1. Manage Automation capital projects from design, integration, installation, and commissioning to ensure they deliver the expected value for Plant Operations

2. Review existing automation to identify opportunities for improving safety, manufacturing efficiencies, quality, and throughput, and vertical integration efforts across plant boundaries.

3. Research, design, and develop controls systems for industrial use utilizing knowledge in control engineering

4. Campus wide, act as a technical expert to troubleshoot automated equipment and robot cells

5. Diagnose problems and make repairs or modifications to automated production equipment requiring a high degree of electrical, electronic, and mechanical skills while minimizing downtime and recurrence

6. Upgrade obsolete or hard to source components.

7. Ensure proper documentation of electrical/ controls and source code management of software programs

8. Collaborate with IT, Plant Operations, and outside contractors to streamline and promote enterprise automation solutions

9. Train shop floor personnel and maintenance/engineering technicians on the operation and troubleshooting of automated equipment

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

1. BS in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

2. Minimum 7 years of experience in managing capital improvement projects

3. Knowledge and ability, hands-on experience with trouble shooting electrical, controls and programs of industrial automation/robotic equipment.

4. Working knowledge of information system communications and ability to configure system interfaces via industry standards, e.g., OPC, XML, SQL, etc.

5. Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic circuits and systems.

6. Practical experience programming Robots, Schneinder Worx and Control Expert, Allen Bradley Studio, VB, C++, Citect SCADA systems, PID control/ tuning and servo systems

7. Ability to read and generate electrical schematics, panel layouts, safety systems and P&IDs drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent.

8. Excellent communication skills, ability to work well on a team
