Job Description
Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for the direction, coordination and control of the functional activities of Medical Nursing.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Assumes responsibility for day to day operation of Medical Nursing collaborating with the Attending Physicians and the Chief Nurse Executive.
Interpret policies and objectives of nursing services to staff and promotes harmonious working relationships with other departments.
Assumes responsibility for selection of personnel for service.
Keep abreast of current nursing technology and professional techniques and disseminate latest developments in the field to nursing staff.
Conducts/participates in meetings/conferences/seminars with various health care related hospital committees/outside agencies.
Direct, coordinate and control the execution, implementation and revision of departmental policies/procedures to assure attainment of nursing department goals/objectives.
Investigate nursing care deficiencies/complaints, prepare responses and follow up on corrective action.
Serves as a resource person and assumes responsibility for the Nursing Department as designated on week-ends and holidays.
Monitor and follow up on patient care incidents to ensure adequate reporting and corrective action as necessary.
Participates in accreditation and P.I. activities and JCAHO activities.
Weekend AOD (Administrator on Duty)
Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
