Description
Under the direction of the Director of Educational Technology and Information Services, or designee, the job of Network and Security Specialist is performed for the purpose of providing technical and resource services to plan, design, install and maintain the district's wide area network, Internet access and local area networks; planning and installing network cabling; analyzing local and wide area network traffic; and providing network user support and assistance. This position also serves as a technical resource for Information Technology Support Technicians and may provide leadership and oversight of their assignments relating to network connectivity. The position ensures that local area networks conform to the specifications and standards established to ensure the technical integrity and reliability of the district's overall wide area network. Plans, develops, and maintains a comprehensive, enterprise-wide information security program to mitigate risks and protect GUSD electronic data and infrastructure from external and internal security threats.
CURRENT VACANCY: One full-time position (8 hrs./day, 12 mos./yr.) with the Educational Technology and Information Services, at the Administration Center. The position includes full district-paid benefits. Health and welfare district contribution is $39,790 annually.

-Administers the district's wide area network (WAN) and all local area network (LAN) connections, including hardware, software, access to the world wide web/Internet, and security issues for the purpose of maintaining the integrity and operational capability of district systems.
-Plans and recommends projects for the purpose of installing and maintaining computer hardware, cabling, routers, switches, and appropriate software.
-Diagnoses, repairs and tests network equipment and software problems for the purpose of maintaining the integrity and reliability of the network (e.g., servers, data communications hardware, circuits, network devices, switches, routers, etc.).
-Evaluates and improves network performance to meet district standards.
-Monitors, maintains and inventories network related equipment for the purpose of ensuring device health and availability.
-Installs, tests, troubleshoots and performs adjustments to a variety of network software on workstations and servers for the purpose of meeting the district's networking needs.
-Conducts regular risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify and address potential threats and security gaps in the network and systems infrastructure.
-Responds to and manages security incidents, coordinating with external agencies, and vendors as needed, including participation in computer forensic investigations.
-Designs, plans, documents, and implements security measures for protecting computer systems, networks, applications, and devices, including cloud and on-premise IoT systems.
-Maintains district's e-mail system for the purpose of ensuring its availability and reliable operation.
-Drives personal vehicle between work sites to conduct work.
-Assists in the performance of other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Two years of related job experience and/or educational training with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education:
-Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job related areas.

License or Certificate:
-Cisco, Microsoft or equivalent network certifications are highly desirable.
