Position Summary
Risk is not just something to be managed, it's a strategic advantage when properly assessed, mitigated, and leveraged for decision-making. At Empower, the Vice President, Risk is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating enterprise-wide risks, ensuring that the company operates with resilience, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk intelligence. This leader will develop and oversee a world-class risk management framework, integrating artificial intelligence (AI)-driven risk analytics, predictive modeling, and automated monitoring systems to optimize financial, operational, compliance, and cybersecurity risk.

This role requires a visionary risk executive who excels at building AI-powered risk management frameworks, implementing governance structures, and proactively mitigating business threats. From regulatory compliance and financial risk assessment to enterprise operational resilience, this leader will ensure Empower's risk management function is future-ready, data-driven, and embedded in every key decision.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive, AI-powered risk management strategy, ensuring enterprise-wide risk intelligence, mitigation, and governance.
  • Leverages AI-driven predictive analytics and real-time risk monitoring to assess and mitigate financial, operational, regulatory, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Leads enterprise risk governance and compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards, internal controls, and industry best practices.
  • Deploys AI-enhanced fraud detection and risk analytics, ensuring real-time risk monitoring, anomaly detection, and automated fraud prevention.
  • Strengthens regulatory risk management, ensuring compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), data privacy, and global risk standards.
  • Optimizes financial risk models, ensuring capital allocation, cash flow forecasting, and debt risk are proactively managed.
  • Oversees insider risk and cyber risk mitigation, deploying AI-powered security intelligence to detect vulnerabilities, prevent breaches, and ensure digital asset protection.
  • Ensures business continuity and crisis management readiness, implementing AI-driven scenario planning and risk contingency strategies.
  • Develops and oversees AI-powered internal audit, compliance tracking, and enterprise risk reporting frameworks, ensuring real-time transparency and proactive risk decision-making.
  • Builds and leads a high-performance risk management team, fostering a culture of proactive risk identification, problem-solving, and compliance excellence.
  • Serves as a trusted risk advisor to the executive leadership team, ensuring that risk intelligence aligns with corporate growth and financial objectives.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Exceptional leadership, risk governance, and strategic planning skills, with the ability to align enterprise risk strategy with corporate objectives and ensure risk resilience across all business units.
  • Proven expertise in AI-powered risk assessment, automated compliance tracking, and predictive risk modeling, with demonstrated ability to optimize risk management workflows through technology.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory risk frameworks (SEC, FDA, HIPAA, General Data Protection Regulation, International Organization for Standardization 27001, System and Organization Controls 2), financial risk modeling, and cybersecurity risk mitigation, ensuring compliance and enterprise resilience.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 15 years of executive leadership experience in risk management, enterprise risk governance, or financial risk strategy, with a proven track record of managing large-scale risk functions in high-growth industries.
  • Requires a Master's degree in risk management, finance, business administration, law, or a related field, with strong preference for candidates with expertise in AI-driven risk intelligence, compliance frameworks, and digital risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI in daily work to drive efficiency, solve problems, and enhance decision-making-adept at integrating AI-powered solutions into all workflows.
  • Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) preferred; Financial Risk Manager (FRM) strongly preferred; Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) preferred; Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) preferred; Insider Threat Program Manager Certification preferred.
