The University of Pittsburgh seeks a Senior Imaging Scientist (Lab Manager III) to work in the Animal Imaging Center in Pittsburgh, PA. The incumbent will manage a diverse portfolio of research studies, including rodent-NHP, operate high-field MRI scanners (Bruker and Siemens) while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Will also maintain scientific equipment in research laboratories; develop moderately complex projects and procedures independently; manage inventory and equipment and performs budget functions; and collaborate to write grant applications and manuscripts.
Must have a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Biological or Physical Sciences or a related field plus 10 years of experience in a related position.
Experience must include 10 years with: (i) Preclinical MRI scanner operation and data collection and signal processing, including the techniques listed above; (ii) Data Analysis with commercial and custom software packages ( DSI Studio, ParaVision 6.0.1, Photoshop, Fiji, Amira, Voxel Tracker); (iii) MR spectrometer and magnet routine maintenance, including: Routine cryogen fills, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, maintaining animal handling, monitoring and anesthesia equipment; (iv) Animal handling and tissue processing: various techniques for rats, mice, and rabbits as well as small primates, Anesthesia (inhalation injectables) minor surgical techniques, Intubation and ventilation (rats and mice), injections iv, ip, im and subq. placement of venous and arterial catheters (rats and mice); (v) Experience with tissue preparation for histology and EM; (vi) Training users, including MRI safety, MRI spectrometer operation, animal preparation and setup, study design assistance; and (vii) Ordering and managing inventory of supplies.
