Position Summary:

As a member of the Data Governance and Analytics team, the Senior Database Architect will be
responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing data structures and tables, and
recommending architecture for ETL/ELT pipelines from/to on-prem and cloud data sources. The Senior
Database Architect will work closely with the development teams, DBA and business stakeholders to
understand business outcomes and requests and translate them into clear, actionable technical
requirements. The Senior Database Architect will apply knowledge of SQL, t-SQL, stored procedures,
and ETL/ELT to perform PoCs (proof of concept) to ensure the validity of proposed solutions. The
Database Architect will work closely with other members of the Enterprise Applications & Data (EAD)
team to understand and implement roadmap initiatives to drive business outcomes.

Responsibilities:
Delivery of Enterprise Applications:

  • Understand business requirements and perform technical implementations by leveraging
    knowledge of enterprise applications and technical expertise.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse/data lake implementation methodologies/concepts
    (Ralph Kimball, Bill Inmon, Dimension modelling, etc.).
  • Understand master data management concepts.
  • Design and develop efficient techniques for fast, optimized data access and transfer of on-prem
    or cloud database systems.
  • Design, implement, and test novel data structures, data search, query, and retrieval solutions to
    enable access to and processing of data access across different scales and complex datasets.
  • Research and recommend latest and stable data architecture methodologies.
    Support of Enterprise Applications:
  • Provide end user support, system maintenance/security and incident resolution to ensure stable
    and resilient business operations of enterprise applications.
  • Ensure enhancements, changes and systems configurations are appropriately documented.
  • Participate in agile team ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog
    grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing
    professional publications; develop personal networks, and participate in professional groups.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field of study, or equivalent
    experience
  • Cloud Architect Certification (AWS preferred)
  • MS SQL Server Developer Certification
    Experience:
  • 10 + years of relevant experience (on-prem and AWS cloud).

Technical Skills:

  • Creating data models (conceptual, logical, and physical) that specify how data is formatted,
    stored, and retrieved inside an organization.
  • Architecting, designing, building, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing databases, tables,
    data structures to meet business and technical needs, obtaining approval from DBA and Dev
    Leads as needed.
  • Collaborating and advising on appropriate database size, servers, and standardization in cloud
    (AWS) and on-prem.
  • Monitoring and advising enterprise data operations team on ETL/ELT workflows, stored
    procedures, and other data pipelines to seamlessly transport data between systems (utilizing
    on-prem and cloud (AWS) data pipeline experience).
  • Staying current with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in data management
    through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Implementing data quality tools and practices to detect and resolve data issues.
  • Ensuring that strict standards are followed throughout the life cycle of a database, including
    data modelling, data types, naming conventions, table types, connections, data security, etc.
  • Ensuring adherence to regulations and guidelines for data systems.
  • Utilizing AWS services like RDS (Relational Database Service), Aurora, and Redshift to manage
    SQL Server instances.
  • Leveraging AWS IAM (Identity and Access Management), security groups for database access
    control.
  • Monitoring AWS cloud health and resource utilization for SQL Server instances.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with QAD or SAP ERP
  • Experience migrating databases from on-prem to cloud


Location: Tallassee, Alabama, Duluth, Georgia, or Mississauga, Canada

Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a
negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Working Conditions: Generally agreeable working conditions such as those found inside offices or
equivalent work areas for more than 70% of the time
