Role & Compensation

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance & Reliability Manager is a key contributor driving up time by providing maintenance and reliability support and services to include facility, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation diagnostics, repair, design and installation of equipment and processes utilized in the production of cellulose insulation. Provides supervision, support and strategic vision for the maintenance department which includes onsite maintenance technicians and contractor personnel, including final inspection of work completed and necessary training for team and operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads all site Maintenance, Facility and Reliability activities.
  • Works with leadership to establish and ensure compliance with health and safety policies.
  • Utilizes all resources (personnel & financial) to ensure Plant operates at maximum equipment utilization and efficiency.
  • Utilize methods to continuously improve efficiency of resources, planning, scheduling and execution of work orders.
  • Develops, plans and coordinates all maintenance activities in the facilities including analyzing equipment needs, reliability issues, developing preventive/predictive/reactive maintenance programs.
  • Reviews general plant operations and confers with engineering, department and administrative staff to resolve production equipment and facilities problems.
  • Owns and establishes best practices for the facility Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Owns and coordinates spare parts inventory and cost control programs.
  • Develops budgets and approves expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring that materials, labor and equipment are used efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Site knowledge leader on Equipment & Parts specification. Works with engineering/technical support to establish site criteria, part and equipment standards, documentation and manage site compliance to these standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering to contribute to scope development, equipment specifications and construction and startup assistance of plant projects
  • Schedules and manages all pre-determined plant shutdowns.
  • Establish and carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues.
  • Plan and oversee all repair and installation activities, including hands-on support as needed.
  • Coordinates and recommends procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • Creates and establishes KPI's for facility maintenance activities to monitor and improve performance.
  • Works closely with production department managers, review maintenance resources to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, train and develop maintenance employees to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Manage plant maintenance programs/personnel to include mechanical, electrical and instrumentation functions. Manage contractor programs, including qualification of contractors and ensuring they are utilized according to company standards and practices and upkeep long term relationships.

The right candidate will bring experience in these areas:
  • Plant Startup: We seek an individual who has managed a maintenance team, systems and facilities during the successful launch of a production facility or production lines. Experience with 24/7 Operations and a willingness to adapt and/or have a flexible schedule are a must.
  • Procedure Development and Training: Leadership and guidance are key to a new organization. We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills as well as organizational and time management skills to ensure the success of the team and company. The successful candidate will be responsible for training their team in all maintenance functions.
  • Experience Across a Range of Scales and Vantage Points: We are looking for a candidate who is familiar with the high paced environment of a disruptive startup but can understand the mindset of large and small counterparts and suppliers who are grinding out pennies in mature industries and can help us with operational efficiencies as we mature. This candidate should have experience and technical knowledge in the following areas to provide expertise and support when needed.
    • Firm understanding of Plant/Production Maintenance and Facility Operations. Key competencies around mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
    • Familiarity and understanding of site Process Control and HMI Software.
  • Hands on DNA through Leadership: Partnering with the CleanFiber team on the floor will come naturally to the candidate. The Maintenance and Reliability Manager must bring experience supervising and/or leading plant maintenance teams. Skilled in problem-solving and troubleshooting complex technical challenges. Familiarity and ability to utilize common MS Office suite/Google Suite tools such as Excel, Word, PPT are important to candidates success.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree; preferably in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering or related. Technical trade certifications in a related area and/or certifications such as Certified Maintenance Manager and/or Certified Reliability Engineer a plus.


Nice-To-Have Experience:
  • Experience in insulation, pulp & paper and/or building products industries
  • CleanTech and/or other venture experience

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $125,000-$150,000 exempt
