The Department of Critical Care Medicine, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta, invites applications for an Adult CVICU Intensivist position to be based at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world's top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada's premier health-education institutions.

The Department of Critical Care Medicine is an integral part of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state-of-the-art facility that provides tertiary and quaternary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is home to some of the premier cardiovascular critical care, mechanical circulatory support/extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, advanced heart failure, and transplant programs in the country with its advanced Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).

Clinical care is provided for the full spectrum of critically ill cardiac patients, including: the breadth of postoperative cardiac surgery patients; complex adult congenital cardiac surgery; aortic surgery; cardiopulmonary transplantation; advanced mechanical ventilatory support; renal replacement therapy; hemodynamic monitoring; and bridging therapies. We host the largest Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Program in the country, and one of the busiest Heart and Lung Transplant programs in Canada. The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is unique, providing both Pediatric and Adult Care.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent, specialty training in Critical Care Medicine, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Advanced training and experience in cardiovascular critical care is a requisite. The candidate will preferentially have training and expertise in ECMO/MCS, heart and lung transplantation, and echocardiography. Training and experience in education, quality and safety and/or clinical research would be an asset.

The successful applicant will be eligible to and expected to work with and supervise multi-level learners. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Critical Care Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will lead the inter-professional critical care team during clinical weeks and on-call in the role of attending physician in the CVICU and be expected to participate in education, quality improvement and research initiatives. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and thrive within a collaborative and interdisciplinary program involving multiple specialties (cardiac surgery, cardiology, cardiac anesthesia).

Remuneration will be Fee-for-Service (FFS) provided through 8-12 clinical service weeks in the CVICU.
