Description
IFC - a member of the World Bank Group - is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities. Our mission is to leverage the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.
IFC has embarked on an ambitious strategy to stimulate more investment activity, especially in Low Income Countries (LICs) and Fragile and Conflict affected Situations (FCS). This strategy aims at creating our own opportunities for private investments in riskier markets by proactively working in these countries to create, deepen, and expand the markets themselves. The Creating Markets strategy requires taking a systematic approach that draws on Country Strategies together with diagnostic tools, including Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSDs) and Sector Deep Dives. This strategy also calls for a closer WBG collaboration to identify and prioritize operations at the country and sector level based on the new WBG
approach to Maximize Finance for Development by prioritizing Private Sector
financing and solutions (the "Cascade").
Global Trade Supplier Finance (GTSF) program, which is part of the IFC's Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Forestry (MA&F) Department, helps emerging market suppliers to improve their competitiveness by providing them with affordable short-term trade financing in countries where private capital does not flow at a scale required to address major development gaps, while also incentivizing improved environmental and social performance of suppliers through sustainability linked pricing.
GTSF is looking for an Associate Investment Officer that will support origination, structuring and execution of new GTSF facilities, as well supporting supervision of existing GTSF facilities. This position is well suited for a self-motivated and highly responsive individual who has excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills. Attention to detail, punctuality, and ability to control quality of one's work output are essential.
Duties & Accountabilities
The role and responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to the following:
Business Responsibility
Work closely with other members of the GTSF team, regional MAS teams, country managers and officers to develop the GTSF pipeline, support processing of new GTSF facilities and portfolio supervision of existing buyers.
Review and analyze GTSF business opportunities, synthesize information into internal reports for decision making purposes.
Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and advisory colleagues to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.
Contribute to dissemination of knowledge about GTSF within the broader MA&F and IFC teams via knowledge pieces, presentations, case studies, etc.
Conduct industry, market and company research.
Create detailed financial models and analyze the viability of new GTSF investments.
Selection Criteria
Master's degree with specialization in business or finance.
Preferably 3 to 5 years of experience in finance, banking, portfolio management or consulting (ideally with a major financial institution, rating agency, consulting firm, etc.).
Experience in structuring, executing and supervising supply chain finance facilities.
Sound numerical, analytical and conceptual skills encompassing finance and the associated areas of financial investment, portfolio management, corporate finance and economics.
Strong financial analysis and modeling skills.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of IFC's strategic priorities and changing business model
against the backdrop of IFC 3.0.
Excellent people skills, openness to feedback, new ideas, and ability to guide, and motivate others.
Sensitivity for working in multicultural environment, commitment to diversity, and ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues / clients / partners across regions.
Ability to multi-task in a target-oriented environment and produce high quality, error-free work while meeting very tight deadlines.
Note: This internal requisition is open to WBG and IMF staff only (including short-term and extended term consultants/ temporaries). External candidates are requested not to apply. In case an external candidate applies, their application will not be considered.
