DEPARTMENT: Early Childhood

LOCATION(S): Head Start/Early Head Start Sites in the Bronx

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of EC New Initiatives

SALARY RANGE: $85,000-$97, 232.50

DATE: February2025

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, 9am-5pm, or 10am-6pm. Schedule may vary due to program needs

JOB SUMMARY: This position serves as Education Coordinator for Grand Street Settlement's early childcare programs. This role supervises specialists, teachers, education consultants and coaches who are responsible for the successful operation of classrooms. The Education Coordinator plans and collaborates with other coordinators and staff in GSS's Early Childhood Services Program to ensure that outcomes are achieved for children of all abilities. For the start-up phase for 2 years this will be an evolving position. Interim roles and responsibilities will be adjusted and this position requires an individual to be flexible. Job responsibilities will be revisited once all center-based sites are up and running.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education required
  • Position requires a current New York State N-6 certification, Students with Disabilities preferred
  • Must have demonstrated achievement in supervision and management, family and community partnerships and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Experience working with young children and understanding of principles of early childhood development
  • Experience working with and knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with program staff and families
  • Excellent writing skills and computer proficiency.
  • Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.

PRE- EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Clearance through DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry, Sex Offender Registry clearance, 3 reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, varicella, Tdap, MMR (fees may apply)
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with agency's policy and procedure regarding identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive Infectious Diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
  • Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start Performance Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Manager of EC New Initiatives, the Education Coordinator shall be responsible for:
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and EHS services; Department of Health NYC (Article 47), GSS Policies, CACFP Guidelines - maintaining overall health and safety of children and staff
  • Collaborate with the Director to ensure high quality comprehensive services are delivered effectively and timely to all enrolled children/families; including transition plans, School Readiness, and Parent, Family, and Community Engagement efforts at directly operated programs and delegate sites
  • Participate in Annual Self-Assessment, Program Information Report (PIR), Community Assessment, Federal Reviews and Policy Council Meetings
  • Collaborate with HS/EHS Regional Specialist to promote high quality services for all program options
  • Main contact for community school program option; oversight of staff members at community schools including scheduling, monitoring and support
  • Planning: Implement policies and procedures for the education portion of the program with parents, staff, and GSS supporting the effective implementation of the education and child development content area in alignment to Head Start Performance Standards, Early Learning Outcome Framework, NYC Pre-K Standards and Common Core. Collaborate with the Dir to ensure high quality comprehensive services are delivered to all enrolled children and families; including transition plans, school readiness and community engagement.
  • Program Implementation: Supervise curriculum implementation ensuring that teachers provide developmentally and linguistically appropriate experiences appropriate to age, language and culture of children served including pregnant women. Lead the implementation of EHS SRG including: assessment data analysis, program planning to support positive child outcomes, and connecting SRG to all content areas
  • Family Partnerships: Ensure parents are integrally involved in developing the program's curriculum and identifying school readiness goals; Offer opportunities to build child observation skills connected to child development. Support FCC providers in coaching, maintaining their CDA, Permits and educational needs.
  • Communication and Service Coordination : Work closely with the Disabilities Coordinator, Health Services manager, , Center Directors, staff, parents and consultants as needed to; support arrangements for the identification, referral, and evaluation of children with suspected disabilities for all children, support transitions with children and families in all program options in and out of the program, manage children's nutritional needs, parent education related to nutrition, and other food/ kitchen related needs.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain filing, tracking and documentation systems for the early childhood education service area for children and staff credential requirements; Ensure confidentiality of staff, child and family records; Gather data for educational efforts and outcomes on individual and center-wide basis, analyzes data and makes program development recommendations to leadership team; Input data into COPA system.
  • Ongoing Monitoring and Self-Assessment: Track child outcomes and program quality assessment results on a center-wide basis and FCC Providers. , analyze data and make program development recommendations. Monitor classroom environments regularly using formal and informal observation, implement researched and reliable tools (Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale - ITERS and Toddler CLASS) FCCERS (Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale
  • Human Resources and Supervision: Work in collaboration with the Education Specialist. Participates in hiring, orientation, and training of program staff, volunteers and interns. Work with teachers to develop and support their individual development plan. Coordinate and implement coaching and professional development for all staff. Provide training related to School Readiness Goals (SRG) and other topics as needed; work collaboratively with Education Consultants (T/TA Plan)
  • Participate in trainings, regular meetings and conferences
  • Perform other duties and undertake special projects as assigned
