Job Title: Application Engineer
Locations: Bethlehem, PA
Application Engineer is primarily responsible for the technical scope required to deliver BESS proposals. It includes understanding the customer"s needs, energy profiles, life cycle requirements, and the creation and delivery of technical aspect of the BESS design to ensure low life cycle cost, quality, reliability, construability, and operation. In addition, the application engineer is required to understand applicable codes, such as regional electrical codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
* Engage with potential customers to promote the BESS solutions to meet their energy needs.
* Design the product to meet their energy needs.
* Responsible for documenting preliminary Bill of Material, manuals, safety system analysis, and the MODBUS.
* Help potential customers move the system through interconnection and permitting processes.
* Ensure proposed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles: UL,CSA,IEEE,NFPA codes.
* Meet with Authorities Having Jurisdiction to address open plan check comments, including structural, electrical, and fire related comments.
* Manage the BESS commissioning process.
* Understands and advise on the role of inverters and power control system technology.
* Collaborate with sales & marketing to tailor offerings.
* Mentor other less experienced staff and provide technical support and guidance.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
* 4-year college degree, preferred
* 5+ years of related technical experience, particularly in the installation and testing of BESS products
* Have a deep understanding of renewables and battery storage systems, including control schema for different use cases such as stand-alone storage, PV + storage, microgrid with multiple forms of generation, load control, etc.
* Solid understanding of single-line drawings and equipment specifications
* Deep understanding of codes and standards related to battery based energy storage systems such as UL9540, UL1741, UL9540A, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 855, International Building Code (IBC) and associated model codes, California Title 24 and all associated codes such as Part 2: California Building Code and Part 6: California Energy Code etc, and California Rule 21
* Ability to travel to locations in North America
* Prior experience in developing BESS proposals
