About the Role
The Operations Manager will play a critical role in managing our e-commerce distribution hub, ensuring that goods move seamlessly from receipt to storage to delivery, while upholding the highest standards of efficiency, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. This position requires a hands-on leader who can drive operational excellence, team leadership, and customer service improvements, all while optimizing processes and managing costs.

Main Purpose of the Job
The main purpose of the Operations Manager is to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods through the Distribution Center, from receipt to storage and ultimately to delivery, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
This will be our main hub for sales direct to consumer (D2C) and the Operations manager will oversee the team that fulfils sales through our ecommerce platforms.
This role will oversee customer service excellence and be responsible for ensuring a seamless shopping experience for customers by managing inquiries, resolving issues, and facilitating efficient order fulfillment. This role handles customer communications regarding order status, shipping delays, returns, and refunds, providing prompt and accurate information to enhance satisfaction. The representative collaborates with warehouse and logistics teams to address discrepancies, track lost packages, and process replacements efficiently. Additionally, they resolve complaints, manage expectations, and maintain brand reputation by delivering professional and courteous support. By leveraging technology such as CRM systems and live chat support, they streamline interactions and improve response times. Ultimately, this role ensures a smooth and hassle-free customer experience, fostering loyalty, trust, and repeat business for the e-commerce platform.
This involves managing people, processes, and technology to meet performance targets, optimize resources, and support the overall supply chain and business objectives. The role ensures that the distribution center operates smoothly, goods are handled accurately and on time, and costs are controlled while adhering to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Efficiency:
Oversee daily operations of the ecommerce distribution center, ensuring processes run efficiently and meet performance KPIs.
Develop and implement strategies to improve operational workflows, minimize errors, and optimize resource utilization.
Team Leadership:
Responsible for hiring a new warehouse team and managing continuous recruitment and selection duties as the company grows.
Manage and lead a team of supervisors, warehouse operatives, and administrative staff.
Foster a positive work culture, ensuring proper training and development for staff to maximize productivity.
Inventory and Stock Control:
Ensure inventory accuracy through regular audits and proper stock management procedures.
Work closely with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure stock levels meet demand forecasts.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety training sessions.
Logistics and Delivery Coordination:
Collaborate with transport teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods to clients or customers.
Address any issues in the supply chain, such as delays or bottlenecks, to maintain customer satisfaction.
Budget and Cost Management:
Monitor budgets and control operational costs to ensure financial efficiency.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
Technology and Reporting:
Utilize warehouse management systems (WMS) and data analytics to track performance, identify trends, and drive improvements.
Prepare and present regular reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and progress against goals.
Customer Service:
Ensure service levels are met or exceeded, working closely with client-facing teams to address and resolve complaints or issues promptly.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in operations management, logistics, or supply chain (e.g., CILT certifications) may be advantageous.
Experience
10 years' experience in operations or warehouse management.
Knowledge of distribution, logistics, and supply chain principles.
5 years + of ecommerce experience preferred
Experience with health and safety compliance.
Strong understanding of lean principles and process improvement techniques (Six Sigma or similar is a plus).
Skills:
