Cell Engineer, Prototyping

Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our team is mainly focused on cell development, selection and validation of cell materials, and design, process and manufacturing hardware for building prototype cells at a variety of form factors and scales. Your responsibility will be spearheading interdisciplinary team efforts to innovate cell prototyping processes to accelerate the development of Tesla cell technology.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for at least one cell prototyping process
• Lead technicians to manage daily activities on at least one process and provide technical guidance to maintain the process quality and manufacturing efficiency
• Improve process capabilities through design of experiment, critical data analysis, and in-depth understanding of interplay between cell process and performance metrics
• Support to establish and standardize baseline process conditions
• Identify and quantify process risks, reliability, and trends relating to quality and efficiency
• Develop and optimize process conditions for new recipes, designs, and materials
• Work with equipment development team to identify needs and define specifications for process and hardware innovation
• Manage workload with a positive attitude as a team player in a collaborative work environment

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of experience in cell engineering, manufacturing, or development
• Experience and knowledge of Li ion battery chemistry, electrochemistry, cell design and manufacturing processes
• Familiarity with data collection, statistical process control, process capability analysis, process failure mode effects analysis, and quality management. Familiarity with analytical software and programming languages (e.g. JMP, Minitab, Matlab, Python, SQL etc.) is a plus
• Ability to lead data-driven root cause analysis efforts and formulate solutions
• Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills as well as the ability to work and manage time independently
• Passion for making fantastic new products and using data to achieve outstanding quality, reliability, and production excellence

Expected Compensation

$84,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
