Counsel, Sales Tax

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Counsel or Analyst to join our global Tax department. Responsibilities

• Support all aspects of indirect tax controversy matters in the United States and Canada, including managing audits, appeals, and litigation
• Conduct legal research and analysis, draft legal memoranda and briefs
• Provide insight into audit approach and enhance audit-readiness through validation and improvement of information and processes
• Strategically partner with stakeholders, including Tax, Trade, Legal, Policy, Finance/Accounting, and IT, to assess audit risk, correct compliance gaps, and establish/update company tax positions
• Support the business from an advisory perspective with respect to policy initiatives, legislative and regulatory developments, incentive opportunities, etc.

Requirements

• 3+ years of indirect tax experience with a law firm, accounting firm, or corporate tax/legal department
• CPA or J.D. and admission to at least one state
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-starter who can organize, prioritize, and manage urgent and competing deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment
• Friendly and respectful individual who can build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
• Microsoft Excel skills a must. Preference for those with advanced data wrangling skills using Alteryx, Tableau, Knime, Power BI, etc.
