Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced employee benefits attorney to join a leading law firm with offices in Portland, Seattle, and Anchorage. This full-time role offers the opportunity to advise clients on a wide range of benefits and compensation matters, including retirement plans, executive compensation, and ERISA compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, draft, amend, and administer qualified retirement plans under Code 401(a), 403(b), 457(b), and other tax-favored plans
- Advise clients on fiduciary obligations, plan corrections, and compliance issues for retirement, health, and welfare plans
- Assist with benefits and compensation aspects of corporate transactions, restructurings, and reductions-in-force
- Provide guidance on multiemployer pension plans, withdrawal liability, and related trust law issues
- Analyze executive compensation arrangements, including non-qualified deferred compensation under Code 409A, 457, and 280G
- Conduct due diligence and review M&A documents for ERISA-related matters
- Ensure compliance with health and welfare plan regulations, including ERISA plan documentation
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 10+ years of experience in employee benefits, ERISA, and executive compensation matters
- Strong knowledge of retirement plans, fiduciary compliance, and employment-related tax issues
- Experience working independently while collaborating in a team-oriented setting
- Active admission to the bar in Oregon, Washington, California, or Alaska (depending on office location)
- Competitive salary range: $200,000 - $250,000, based on experience
- Potential for higher base compensation depending on a portable book of business
- Eligibility for productivity and discretionary merit bonuses
