Job Summary

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the physician staff and administrative management, the Pediatric Neurosurgery Nurse (Clinical Nurse II) works independently to coordinate the clinical care for Pediatric Brain Center clinic patients. The Pediatric Neurosurgery Nurse will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to screen patient referrals, coordinate patient evaluations, ensure efficient patient care flow, provide patient education, and act as the liaison between the inpatient and outpatient nursing staff to ensure continuity of care for patients and their families. In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.

The Pediatric Neurosurgery Nurse will communicate with ancillary support services, to identify and resolve problems maximizing the efficient utilization of resources. They will coordinate the interdisciplinary care needed for pediatric neurology and neurosurgery patients and will work closely with child neurology, pediatric neurosurgery, neurodiagnostics, neuropsychology, social work and other members of the health care team. The Pediatric Neurosurgery Nurse consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and demonstrates investments in the success and overall movement forward of the Pediatric Brain Center. The Pediatric Neurosurgery Nurse complies with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $84.78 - $109.85 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of RN clinical employment experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with pediatric nursing, care coordination, ambulatory practice, discharge planning, or case management experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (CCS requirement)
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • Proven ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and professional conduct.
  • Computer literate (esp. MS Word, Outlook, and internet use) and experience with EHRs
  • High level organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence including effective leadership, teaching, and communication skills or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent Pediatric Neurosurgery experience
  • Recent Pediatric Neurology experience
  • Recent Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) experience


License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
