Position Summary:

The Director, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and is responsible for providing administrative leadership, management and coordination of the FNP program. The Director will ensure fulfillment of program goals and objectives and maintain compliance with accreditation, certification and regulatory bodies. In addition, the Director will support, coach, and guide faculty assigned to the FNP program using approaches that develop individual strengths and foster cross-team cohesion and community. It is also expected that the Director advocates for collaborative and interprofessional education endeavors to improve all academic programs; promote educational innovations and research; advocate and participate actively in continuous educational quality improvement.

Essential Functions:
  • Oversee and manage the MSN/FNP program which includes curriculum development and delivery, program accreditation, leading faculty, assuring continuous curriculum improvement, and assessing program and course outcomes.
  • Fosters a departmental climate that supports collegiality, professionalism, and development of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, College of Nursing to recruit, interview, and secure full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and preceptors.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop and revise courses and/or curriculum as needed.
  • Participates in the orientation and mentoring of new faculty and staff.
  • Assess and make recommendations to fill the professional needs of faculty in the program.
  • Assists the Dean, College of Nursing with formative and summative evaluation of faculty and staff and provides appropriate guidance to improve the quality of teaching and learning experiences.
  • Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
  • Monitors student progression and program retention and makes recommendations for student support and improvement of retention.
  • Implements and monitors remediation plans for students as necessary.
  • Addresses student and faculty issues related to the MSN/FNP program, in consultation with the Dean, College of Nursing, where indicated.
  • Participate in MSN/FNP program budget development and management.
  • Coordinate and evaluate course textbooks, software, hardware, lab supplies, and simulation equipment in collaboration with faculty.
  • Maintain communication and work cooperatively with off campus preceptors.
  • Communicate and network with outside organizations to recruit for practicum sites.
  • Assists the Dean, College of Nursing in generating data and preparing annual reports to the University or accreditation bodies.
  • Assists in updating catalogs and student handbooks.
  • Pursues grants and outside funding for major projects, equipment, and scholarships in collaboration with the Dean, College of Nursing

Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in nursing or health related discipline required.
  • Master's degree in nursing or post-master's certificate, Family Nurse Practitioner required.
  • National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
  • Eligible for licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Nevada & Utah.
  • Five (5) years clinical experience as an APRN required.
  • Prior administrative experience in nursing education at a postsecondary institution preferred.
  • Qualified for appointment of assistant or associate professor (administrative title is at-will)
