The Failure Analysis Team's mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla's products in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Vehicle and Energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role that requires extensive hands-on failure analysis of electronic systems and components.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, fast-learning individual who will work closely with experienced engineers on analyzing, root causing, and reporting on electronic component issues involving systems such as infotainment, low voltage, power electronics, and battery systems among others.

As an industry leading company, Tesla offers the opportunity to work on leading products and cutting-edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.

  • Perform functional testing and board level debug to reproduce symptoms, isolate failing components, and confirm electrical failure modes
  • Perform both electrical and physical failure analysis techniques to successfully root cause PCBA/Component level failures
  • Work cross-functionally with engineers from Design, Quality, Manufacturing Test, and Supplier Industrialization to contain and correct defects found in failure analysis
  • Produce written reports that clearly convey results of failure analysis, next steps, and corrective action
  • Design experiments to test hypotheses and recreate failure mechanisms

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant industrial experience in semiconductor/IC, and/or PCBA failure analysis
  • Proficient in semiconductor fault isolation techniques such as Laser Scan Microscopy, Photon Emission Microscopy, and Lock in Thermography
