East Tennessee State University (ETSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of Academic and Faculty Affairs in the College of Health Sciences (CHS). This senior leadership role is integral to fostering an intellectually rigorous, inclusive, and ethically grounded academic community.
The Associate Dean will be a distinguished educator and leader responsible for advancing academic programs and strategic initiatives within the College, with a strong emphasis on innovation and academic excellence. Reporting directly to the Dean, this individual will provide academic and administrative leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs and faculty affairs.
The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Dean, Assistant Deans, School Directors, Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Clinic Directors to oversee more than 20 undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as multiple clinical services.

The Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs will become an integral member of a diverse, progressive leadership team focused on regional health improvement through the unified branding of ETSU Health. ETSU Health includes the newly restructured College of Health Sciences, the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, and the College of Public Health. Together, they enroll 4,000 students and offer 35 different degree programs, including 12 clinical and research doctoral degrees, and have achieved national recognition for their interprofessional education programs and practice partnerships spanning more than three decades. The College of Health Sciences is newly restructured to feature two schools with seven departments, a research center, and a research doctoral program. The School of Clinical Sciences includes the Departments of Allied Health Sciences, Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology, Counseling & Human Services, Nutrition and Integrated Health Sciences, Rehabilitation, and Social Work. The School of Human Performance and Sport Science includes the Department of Exercise Science, the Center of Excellence in Sport Science and Coach Education, and MS and PhD programs in Sport Science and Coach Education. The College enrolls over 1,700 students in 21 academic programs at the bachelor's, master's, and clinical and research doctoral levels. It has a growing Division of Clinical Affairs, providing interdisciplinary health care services with over 11,000 patient visits last year.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the full partner with the Dean in the strategic direction and operation of CHS.
- Collaborate with the Dean, Assistant Deans, School Directors, and Department Chairs to establish, monitor, and report on the development and progress of the strategic plan for the college.
- Provide oversight and direction to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
- Provide leadership and oversight for academic program review, curriculum development, and the modernization of degree offerings.
- Build partnerships both within and outside the University to help to nurture existing academic programs and create new academic offerings, including inter-professional and cross-disciplinary programs, that are career-relevant and nationally competitive.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction, in partnership with the Director of Research Affairs, for advancing the college's research portfolio.
- Represent CHS in university committees related to curriculum approvals, degree proposals, and academic changes.
- Coordinate and facilitate revisions to policies related to workload, tenure, and promotion.
- Lead efforts to develop and implement inclusive faculty mentoring policies and procedures.
- Work with chairs and faculty to administer faculty affairs in a manner that supports our faculty and increases the value of our educational experience to our students and stakeholders.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain continuous accreditation for academic programs, including preparation of renewal applications and correspondence with accrediting bodies.
- Ensure program quality and support the development of new initiatives in collaboration with chairs and program directors.
- Serve as the Dean's proxy in College and University matters, including leadership meetings, faculty evaluation and reporting, grade appeals, academic misconduct cases, and student complaints.
- Provide oversight of CHS committees related to the role.
- Work with chairs and program directors to ensure the sufficient and effective use of instructional talent and provide college-level direction for recruitment, hiring, and retention of faculty.
- Work with chairs and program directors to optimize the use of instructional resources and ensure effective faculty recruitment, hiring, and retention.
- Oversee the assessment of faculty activities to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines.
- Engage in scholarly activity that is appropriate for the discipline.
- Support faculty in creating personal growth and development plans.
- Lead and coordinate special projects as assigned by the Dean.

Required Qualifications
- Earned terminal degree in the appropriate discipline within the college.
- A minimum of five years of administrative experience at the department chair, or equivalent level in higher education.
- Teaching, service, and scholarly achievements appropriate for appointment as a tenured associate or full professor within an academic department in the College.
- Demonstrated experience advancing student success at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels.
- Demonstrated experience in faculty development and mentorship for teaching, research, and service.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, experience, and accomplishments in higher education settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Meaningful leadership and administrative experience (8+ years) in higher education at the department chair level or higher.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective academic program administration of accredited programs represented in the College.
