Description
This position is essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.
SUMMARY

Performs complex administrative, analytical, and professional work to help the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office achieve the highest professional standards, engage in continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with the standards of leading accrediting agencies.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
Oversees the accreditation process, including assessments; evaluates and reports the efficiency and effectiveness of the accreditation program.
Plans and monitors the on-site assessments and maintains appropriate records relating to accreditation activities.
Responsible for maintaining all files for compliance with the accreditation process.
Conducts employee orientation training regarding the accreditation process.
Writes and/or reviews all new and revised policies to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
Acts as a liaison between Law Enforcement administration, other employees and outside agencies in all accreditation efforts.
Assists with special projects and assignments by conducting research and planning and assists with presentations as needed.
Represents the Sheriff's Office at local, regional, and national conferences and meetings related to the accreditation process.
Maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Maintains, enforces and makes recommendations as it relates to the Corrective Diversion Process for employees. This includes the retention and maintenance of records as it relates to the process.
Reviews and approves the completed work assignments of employees, leave requests and

timesheets.
Counsels employees to improve work productivity and conducts progressive discipline within agency guidelines.
Makes recommendations and conducts inspections to further the continuous improvement of the organization.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed.
May be subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must pass a comprehensive background/character investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and polygraph examination; fingerprinting will be required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Administration, Police Sciences, Public Administration, Records Management, or closely related field preferred.
Three (3) years of accreditation and compliance experience in the law enforcement field; or equivalent education and experience.
Two years of supervisory experience in the accreditation and compliance field preferred.
If applicant served in the military, an honorable discharge is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possession of valid Florida driver's license and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. (CFA), Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC), Florida Model Jail Standards (FMJS), National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) standards and the accreditation process.
Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement management, operation, administration, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of agency policies and procedures and state and local laws/ordinances.
Thorough knowledge of statistical analysis and business arithmetic.
Knowledge of demographic and geographic characteristics of the community.
Knowledge of general office policies, procedures, and practices.
Knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Skill in proof-reading documents and making appropriate corrections.
Skill to training and provide technical support required in order to maintain compliance and preparedness for accreditation.
Skill to keep the agency in compliance. Skill in research, including Internet-based.
Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
Skill in the use of office equipment, including computers and various software applications related to the essential functions of the position.
Ability to delegate tasks effectively, accepting responsibility for the outcome.
Ability to handle confidential information effectively and discreetly.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
