Position Details

As an Electrical Inspector II, you'll work collaboratively with the building safety team, residents, businesses, and construction contractors to ensure compliance with ordinances, policies, construction codes, and regulations. This role is non-exempt (hourly) and has a starting salary of $98,987.20 annually, depending on qualifications. This position is open until filled. A first review of applications will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
How you'll use your strengths every day
The Electrical Inspector II Values People and Perspectives By:
  • Coordinating inspections with the Engineering Department, Planning Department, and Fire Department.
  • Educating contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners on codes to ensure their understanding and compliance with state and city regulations.

  • Review new or substitute materials used in building construction and make recommendations for their acceptance or rejection.
  • Record inspection results, post images, and document communication electronically.

  • Notifying permit holders, architects, and engineers of any deficiencies found.
  • Keeping abreast of new equipment, materials, and construction practices, as well as changes in existing codes toensure a thorough understanding of the building industry and the effective and fair administration of codes.

What you'll bring to help you be successful
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Licensed as an Electrician or Plumber by the State of Minnesota or certified as a Building Official.
  • Minimum of 7 years of building inspection experience and/or work in the construction trades at journeyperson or master level.
  • Must meet the minimum competency criteria for Combination Inspector as outlined in Minnesota Rules Chapter 1301.1400.
  • Must have experience in the commercial construction field.
  • Must possess a current valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and mobile devices.
  • Strong technical abilities with an educator mindset preferred.
  • Must possess a State delegation in one of the following areas: Building, Plumbing, Electrical, or Mechanical.
  • Must possess a Commercial Building or Mechanical ICC certification or obtain it within one year.
