Sr. EHS Engineer, Vehicle Engineering Fleet

The EHS Engineer will lead the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies and procedures tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by autonomy. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the transition to autonomous vehicles is not only technologically advanced but safe, sustainable, and compliant with regulatory standards. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into the design, operation, and maintenance of our fleet.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enforce safety protocols for Autonomous operations, ensuring proactive risk assessment and mitigation strategies
• Ensure all Autonomous operations comply with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, adapting to changes in legislation related to autonomous vehicles
• Collaborate with product development teams to integrate safety features that align with the mission of providing affordable and accessible transportation
• Develop training programs for staff, contractors, and partners on EHS protocols and best practices specific to autonomous vehicle technology
• Establish and manage a system for reporting, investigating, and learning from any incidents involving autonomy, enhancing safety measures continuously
• Manage compliance and EHS site ownership of a central hub location. Serve as the EHS liaison for multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and timely resolution of EHS issues
• Engage with local communities, government bodies, and stakeholders to address concerns, promote transparency, and ensure EHS considerations are part of community dialogues

Requirements

• Degree in Safety Engineering, Public Health, or a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 2 years in the transportation or automotive sector
• Strong understanding of autonomous vehicle technology, AI, and robotics as they pertain to EHS
• Proven track record in managing large-scale EHS programs, particularly in innovative and high-tech environments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups including technical teams, executives, regulatory bodies, and the public
• Passion for safety, sustainability, and innovation, with a drive to contribute to the transformation of urban mobilit
