Position Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering execution of Gaven Industries' shielding equipment projects from specification through final design submittal. This role ensures that engineering efforts align with project requirements, schedules, and customer expectations while maintaining manufacturability and quality standards. The Project Engineer will own the technical specification of assigned projects, coordinate engineering schedules, task drafters and designers, and act as the primary technical liaison with customers. Additionally, they will ensure submittals are completed accurately and on time while working closely with production, project management, and procurement to drive projects to completion.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with a systems engineering approach to solving complex engineering problems, utilizing modern methods, processes, and tools to ensure robust and reliable solutions.

Education & Experience:

Responsibilities
- Project Ownership & Coordination
- Own and maintain the technical specification for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage engineering schedules, coordinating tasks across engineering, drafting, and production teams.
- Assign and oversee the work of drafters and designers to ensure timely and accurate completion of technical drawings and models.
- Act as the primary engineering point of contact for customers, ensuring clear communication and resolving technical questions.
- Lead engineering reviews and coordinate cross-functional collaboration to identify and mitigate design risks early in the process.
- Design & Development
- Lead the design of Gaven products, including the creation of technical specifications, 3D models, 2D drawings, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Review and refine designs to ensure compliance with technical requirements, project goals, and manufacturability.
- Apply systems engineering principles to define and manage project requirements, ensuring all subsystems function together as intended.
- Submittals & Documentation
- Take ownership of Design Submittals and Architectural Submittals to ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of engineering documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Work with project management and customers to address review comments and required design revisions.
- Manufacturability & Production Support
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality control standards.
- Engage with suppliers to verify material and component specifications, ensuring project requirements are met.
- Support the integration of automation, such as utilizing custom coding or scripts, to optimize workflows and reduce design time.
- Continuous Improvement & Technical Leadership
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes and improve product quality.
- Provide mentorship to drafters and junior engineers on best practices in engineering design and project coordination.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies for solving complex engineering challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating engineering resources and schedules.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Suite: Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit, and Vault.
- Familiarity with submittal processes and an ability to generate and manage submittal documents.
- Excellent communication skills for effectively interacting with customers, internal teams, and management.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited school.
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in engineering, design, or project engineering; candidates with significant Co-Op or internship experience may be considered.
- Experience in generating and managing submittals related to mechanical design projects.
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering approaches and methodologies.
- A certificate or degree in Systems Engineering is preferred.
- Prior experience in customer-facing engineering roles is preferred.
