Be part of something extraordinary! The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ALDESHQ) has a need for a Health Physicist, supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) through the Radiation Protection Division. Reporting to the RP Field Support Manager, the operational HP is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the LANL Radiation Protections program while supporting work execution.

Health Physicist Level 1 ($94,500 - $154,600)
You will be under general supervision, providing radiological safety-related technical support, technical assistance and guidance on basic radiological control problems, recommending corrective actions (including changes in the work environment) when necessary. Such support may include radiation monitoring and contamination control, performing basic personnel and facility radiation exposure measurements, performing radiation equipment testing, providing engineered controls, performing preliminary dose or shielding calculations, and performing radioactive materials and waste measurements. You will assist in the development and implementation of technical basis documents, policies, and procedures in such technical areas as inspection standards, safe-work methods, decontamination procedures, and radiological emergency procedures. You will conduct basic radiation protection research and develop reports to ensure and maintain the excellence of the Laboratory's radiation protection program; you may also develop and apply cutting edge technologies to enhance radiation protection practice and performance and, where appropriate, to benefit industry.

Health Physicist Level 2 ($104,100 - $172,200)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Health Physicist 2 will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating research, training and monitoring programs to protect Laboratory personnel from radiation hazards, while ensuring that radiation protection policies and procedures are incorporated into Laboratory activities. You will ensure compliance with industry standards pertaining to radiation protection and lead projects with medium complexity, and/or scope, with minimal direct supervision. As an HP2 you will also research, develop and implement technical basis documents, policies and procedures in such technical areas as: inspection standards, safe-work methods, decontamination procedures, and radiological emergency procedures. Providing technical guidance in functional areas to customers and to less-experienced health physicists and radiation protection technicians will also be within your scope of responsibility. Examples of guidance include: reviewing and approving proposed work and design documents; planning moderate-to-high hazard radiological work and specifying work controls.
