Job Title: Radiation Therapist
Job Specialty: Radiation Oncology
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Radiation Therapist
License: Active Illinois IEMA license
Certifications: ARRT registered
Must-Have: Proficiency in radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation
Job Description:
- Review patients' medical charts for prescription, treatment time, and prescribed dose.
- Confer with physicians to clarify orders as necessary.
- Gather information on new patients, including prior diagnostic studies and port films of previously treated areas.
- Assist Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist in patient simulation and localization procedures.
- Schedule diagnostic exams, revise treatment plans with physicians, obtain tumor localization films, and fabricate immobilization devices.
- Explain procedures to patients to allay fears and elicit cooperation, informing them of possible treatment reactions and side effects.
- Utilize computer systems to enter charges for treatments rendered.
- Position patients under equipment to expose diseased areas to ionizing radiation while protecting all other body areas.
- Maintain supply inventory to ensure availability of needed supplies.
- Observe patients during procedures via CCTV monitor to ensure correct positioning, reporting any change in condition.
- Fabricate custom treatment devices for individual patients.
- Perform quality control tests on treatment equipment, recording and reporting results.
Equipment Utilized:
- CT/Sim
- Varian Halcyon linear accelerator
- Aria for radiation oncology management
- Epic for parent electronic medical records (EMR)
Dress Code:
- Solid-colored scrub pants that do not drag on the floor.
- Appropriate printed scrub tops may be worn.
- Closed-toe shoes without holes, such as athletic shoes and clogs with a strap around the heel.
Training and Orientation:
- New department with training provided for Varian Halcyon.
- Mobile Halcyon and CT units will be available for training and simulations.
- Department includes front desk, exam rooms, and office space while new permanent site is built.
