Position Details

Position Description

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time, assistant professor position without tenure (WOT) due to funding. This position will focus on genetic and circuit-based regulation of dopaminergic neurons and their effects on reward behavior. Possible specializations include circuit-specific CRISPR/Cas9 genetic tools in the nervous system, optogenetics, fiberphotometry, transcriptomics, and electrophysiology in the central nervous system.

We anticipate a start date of July 2025, but this is flexible. Assistant professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for this position will be $7,917 - $11,250 per month ($95,004 - $135,000), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, R01-funded research program, to contribute to the teaching responsibilities of the department through existing or new courses, and to contribute to the department's commitment to service within the School of Medicine, the University of Washington or the greater Seattle community.

Research, teaching and service are the foundation of our scientific and education contributions to the State of Washington, the University of Washington, international science communities, and the public. Our broader mission centers on three areas. Discovery : to understand the molecular basis of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Training : to provide high-quality, rigorous training that prepares students, postdoctoral scholars, and clinical fellows for science-and medicine-related careers. Communication : to disseminate scientific results and share our passion for biomedical research across our community.

The Department of Pharmacology values diverse experiences and perspectives. Thus, we strive to create a welcoming and respectful research environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.
