Job Description

The Executive Director of Intercultural Engagement is responsible for advancing the Student Experience Division's belonging and access objectives through programming, education, and community building. The Executive Director will provide leadership and oversight to the Intercultural Collective ensuring a vibrant, safe, engaging, and educational environment for all students. The Executive Director plays a critical role in student success by working collaboratively with key campus partners to increase student's sense of community and access to educational and co-curricular engagement by facilitating opportunities that recognize and support all students; ensuring they have a place to connect on campus and learn from each other. The Executive Director serves on the Student Activism Engagement Team.

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in a related field such as higher education, student affairs, educational leadership, student personnel services.
  • Eight (8+) plus years of progressively responsible experience in Student Affairs or Higher Education, to include previous management or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of assessment, evaluation and planning, data collection, reporting, and synthesizing information for reporting.
  • Proven experience in development of personnel in the workplace and working through personnel issues with full-time employees


Skills and Knowledge
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of student development and an understanding of current issues and best practices in inclusive experiences, community building and access in higher education settings.
  • Able to formulate policies and procedures to organize department for effectiveness and efficiencies
  • Evidence of successfully working with students and their parents/families.
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels in a complex institution, as well as with various external partners.
  • Proven experience in supervising full-time staff.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively working and establishing rapport with diverse populations inclusive of gender, race/ethnicity, religion, country of origin, sexual orientation, class, veteran status, and disability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to lead, multi-task, and remain calm in the midst of highly tense situations; crisis management skills.


Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and fiscal oversight to the following: Disability Cultural Center, the Center for International Services, LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Kessler Scholars, and Belonging and Student Success Programs.
  • Oversees ongoing efforts to develop and implement departmental strategic plans, including assessing program outcomes, services that will further enhance the student experience.
  • Supervises a team of professionals, graduate assistants, and student assistants, including hiring, training, professional development, and performance management.
  • Work closely with the Student Experience leadership team to ensure a vibrant, safe, engaging, and educational environment for all students.
  • Collaboration, outreach, and relationship building with colleagues across campus, including student support staff in academic units, and in the city of Syracuse.
  • Serves on the Student Activism Engagement Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
