Description

The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation Southern Region Parks Division seeks an experienced Park Manager IIto manage a diverse park maintenance program. The role requires a strong leader with expertise in park management and team coordination to ensure a safe, secure, and enjoyable park experience for the public. This position will manage the grounds of diverse park facilities, including regional and neighborhood parks, recreational facilities, and undeveloped properties, while collaborating with staff and external partners to support programs.

The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am - 2:45 pm, but may be required to occasionally work evenings, weekends and holidays based on program needs. This position is deemed essential for weather-related events.
Examples of Important Duties

Operational Management
  • Manage the daily operations of grounds maintenance for park facilities; Assign work tasks and adjust work assignments to meet immediate needs.
  • Ensure quality upkeep of turfgrass and park amenities such as picnic shelters, tennis courts, basketball courts, and dog waste stations.
  • Understand the operation of various groundskeeping and general maintenance equipment.
  • Enforce adherence to safety protocols and practices.
  • Monitor park conditions and provide action steps for improvements.
  • Collaborate with various professionals for park development, construction, and specialized maintenance.
Personnel Management
  • Supervise staff, evaluate and counsel employees on work performance.
  • Train staff for job specific duties; Provide trainings for professional growth and development.
  • Schedule and conduct periodic meetings with staff.
  • Maintain files and records pertinent to employees' work performance and attendance.
Administration
  • Complete and approve time reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of asset inventory on a monthly basis.
  • Review and approve vehicle mileage logs.
  • Review and submit completed work orders. Ensure data input into the EAM workorder system.
  • Research and solicit quotes for equipment, supplies and materials. Submit purchase requisitions and track purchases through the payment process.
  • Identify problems and develop solutions; Accurately prioritize job tasks or projects.
  • Serve as a liaison with the community. Respond to inquiries and complaints.
Leadership
  • Ability to effectively facilitate a work culture that promotes communication, understanding, and empathy.
  • Demonstrate commitment to building a cohesive unit, staff development, and mentoring.
  • Stay abreast of new practices and technologies.
  • Consistent record with data collection, statistics, data analytics, and a record of applying quantitative methods to decision making.
  • Promote a positive working environment motivated to provide excellent customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other web/mobile applications
  • Strong project management skills and project planning.
  • Knowledge of local, State, and Federal laws and policies.
  • Ability to communicate in another language a plus.
  • Effective communicator for program development with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of technology to perform inspections and enter data into portable electronic equipment. Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in park management/administration, outdoor recreation, natural sciences, or related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience which includes park operations program planning and development and supervision of staff; or

2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Valid driver's license.

4. Additionally, contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require:

a. Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements upon appointment, or the ability to acquire one within six months.
b. Maryland Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's certification in the categories appropriate to the work assignment.
c. Certification by the National Playground Safety Institute.

Class/Specification: Park Manager II

The position requires a combination of field and office work. Work conditions may include exposure to dust, vibration, noise, chemicals, dirt, waste, odors, pesticides, wildlife, potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.) as well as exposure to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain, etc.). An essential employee for on-call 24 hours for emergencies.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
