The Vice President, Information Technology (VP of IT) is pivotal in aligning technology initiatives with YMCA BC's strategic goals and fostering innovation throughout the organization. This position is responsible for overseeing IT operations, infrastructure, security, and digital transformation, ensuring technological solutions are reliable, efficient, and secure technological solutions to support daily operations and long-term growth.
The VP of IT will lead and develop a centralized IT team, manage financial resources effectively, and provide strategic direction to enhance organizational capabilities. The role involves collaborating across departments, managing vendor relationships, and implementing cutting-edge technologies that support YMCA BC's mission.

The role involves collaborating across departments, managing vendor relationships, and implementing cutting-edge technologies that support YMCA BC's mission.
Major Responsibilities- In this role, you will:
Strategic Leadership & IT Management
- Develop and implement a long-term IT strategy to align technology initiatives with YMCA BC's mission and growth objectives.
- Work across the organization and with senior leaders to ensure the responsible management of IT resources and technology investments.
- Serve as the key advisor to senior leadership on technology strategy, risk management, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Engage with regulatory bodies and external partners to ensure IT operations meet industry standards and legal compliance.
- Achieve measurable improvements in IT capabilities and effectiveness to meet increasing workloads and service demands.
IT Operations & Infrastructure Management
- Oversee and manage IT infrastructure, operations, and security to ensure reliability, scalability, and compliance across all YMCA BC locations. Be directly involved in critical technical decisions and major implementations, ensuring an active, hands-on role in IT operations.
- Develop, implement, and optimize IT operational systems and guidelines to support efficiency and scalability in high-volume environments, including education and administrative settings.
- Oversee capital and operational budgeting, financial forecasting, and IT investment planning. Ensure strategic resource allocation across infrastructure, licensing, vendors, and workforce while optimizing expenditures for cost-efficiency and maximizing return on investment.
- Develop and implement IT infrastructure strategic planning, project management, and policy development frameworks to support operational excellence.
- Develop, implement, and oversee IT governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and risk management protocols.
- Ensure compliance with data security and regulatory standards by developing governance policies and conducting regular audits.
- Develop and execute business continuity and disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime and data loss.
Team Leadership & Workforce Development
- Guide and mentor the IT team, offering direction, managing performance, and creating opportunities for professional development. Lead from the front by actively participating in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and major IT initiatives, ensuring a hands-on approach to leadership.
- Manage IT staff recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and succession planning to foster a high-performing and collaborative environment.
- Ensure employee and user training and development to improve IT proficiency across the organization.
Project & Vendor Management
- Drive and oversee IT project management, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget while improving cross-departmental collaboration.
- Negotiate and manage relationships with external vendors, IT service providers, and outsourcing partners to ensure cost efficiency and service reliability.
- Manage IT outsourcing providers to ensure service continuity, accountability, and performance improvements.
Qualification-you bring:
Education
- A bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A master's degree in technology leadership or equivalent experience is highly preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of experience, including technology strategy, IT operations, and enterprise security. Proven ability to take a hands-on approach, working directly with IT teams to troubleshoot, implement solutions, and drive initiatives forward.
- Hands-on experience building and managing high-performing IT teams.
- Demonstrated success in expanding business operations and spearheading technology-driven initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning, project management, and policy development.
- Experience managing IT outsourcing providers and vendor relationships.
- Experience with enterprise-wide systems, including human resource systems, network management, and administrative platforms.
- Broad experience across IT functions, with a preference for proposal and grant writing, planning, and presentations.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost optimization, and IT investment planning.
- Experience implementing IT governance frameworks, ensuring risk management, compliance, and alignment with business continuity objectives.
- Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
