Description:

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician to assist with the development and prototyping of lithium ion cells; focusing on pilot scale processes and operations. The candidate should be familiar with lithium ion cell manufacturing processes. The candidate will be a key member of a cross functional product development team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the operation of cell assembly equipment to produce and test state-of-the-art prototype battery cells
  • Perform regular equipment inspections before and after running the equipment; work closely with equipment team to achieve optimal overall equipment efficiency
  • Carefully document critical build process parameters and quality control metrics, and perform analysis as needed
  • Perform minor equipment repairs, rebuilds, and installations, and coordinate with equipment team for major repairs
  • Provide feedback on existing SOPs and assist the process and equipment engineering teams to write new SOPs
  • Diagnose cell build issues and equipment failures - root cause and communicate required actions between the equipment and process engineering teams
  • Perform build QC on all electrodes and cells - this will include building and testing half-cell coin cells and running other electrochemical diagnostic techniques


Requirements
  • Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience of operating pilot-scale equipment
  • Strong ownership mindset
  • Experience with air-sensitive material and hazardous chemicals
  • Ability to analyze problems associated with processing challenges and equipment fault conditions, identify root causes, and quickly implement reliable long-term solutions
  • Careful attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate results and challenges to engineering team
  • Direct experience with cell assembly line is a strong plus
  • Experience with design of experiments is a plus
  • Great communication skills and teamwork

      $28.80 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
