Overview

The Measurement Sciences (MS) Analytical Technical Associate Scientist is part of Measurement Sciences and reports into our Measurement Sciences Analytical Technical Manager - Core Testing, based in Plano. This role supports the core testing program analysis of foods, which is integral to the daily analytical testing of innovation, research, and quality monitoring for the successful development/commercialization of new products and maintaining existing products. The role is based out of Plano, TX.

Responsibilities

The main objective of the role is to support GC Analytical Lab analyses by performing chemical and physical analysis of foods, reporting timely results and maintaining accurate records and documentation under the direction of the Analytical Technical Manager and senior Team Leads. The daily work includes the preparation of chemical solutions, performing sample dilutions as needed, performing chemistry analysis such as volatile and hexanal extraction by adhering to approved methods, instrument maintenance, organize lab supplies as well as inventory and support other tasks assigned by the Analytical Technical Manager. This role provides an opportunity to apply technical knowledge by collaborating with PepsiCo's manufacturing plants to solve consumer complaints and urgent global requests. The role works closely on business-critical innovation projects with the R&D Product Development teams, partnering with the methods team to develop the next generation of test methods to meet the requirements of the ever-changing field operational analytical needs, landscape, and innovation.
  • Conduct sample preparation and data acquisition for volatiles and hexanal analysis by following approved procedures.
  • Perform GCMS checkup and maintenance to ensure instruments are in good working condition.
  • Follow Chain of Custody protocol; receive and log sample into LabVantage LIMS for analysis and traceability; manage sample disposal following standard protocol.
  • Perform bench work supporting Forensics investigation including Microscopy, sample prep for GC, HPLC and GC FID.
  • Support GC team members as needed on execution various R&D projects
  • Partner with product development to consult on ways of analyzing PepsiCo food products.
  • Partner with product development to drive key business objects in conformance with FDA approved methodology for projects.
  • Stay current in area of expertise and area of project related research by reading and interpreting scientific literature and IP and actively engage in relevant external scientific organizations.
  • Collaborate across the Measurement Sciences global laboratory team to ensure alignment and consistency across processes and practices.
  • Demonstrate adherence to site Health & Safety and Good Laboratory Practice policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation and assure the reliability of measurement systems by using appropriate GLP.
  • Order supplies for GC area team.
  • Negotiate service contracts and coordinate preventative maintenance of instruments.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $64,300 - $107,650.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Analytical Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or related discipline with 3+ years' experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Analytical food chemistry experience required.
  • Experiences with GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC, SPEME, Microscopy and knowledge of flavor chemistry strongly desired.
  • Operational expertise in the use of analytical software (e.g. Agilent Openlab, Agilent MassHunter).
  • Accelerated Shelf-life testing experience recommended.
  • Experience working effectively as a member and contributor on cross functional teams.
  • Must understand and follow safe handling of hazardous chemicals and have an appreciation of the normal hazards associated with laboratory work.
