Job Title: MRI Technologist
Job Specialty: MRI

Shift: Day, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Guaranteed Hours: 40.00 per week
Experience: Not specified
License: Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry-eligible program required.
Certifications: ARRT (MR) certification required within one year of hire; CPR certification required.
Must-Have: Ability to scan a wide variety of inpatient and emergency department patients, mostly adults with occasional pediatric cases.
Job Description:
- Perform MRI procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
- Operate MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency including post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and monitoring equipment.
- Examine requests and verify orders on each assigned patient; consult with a Radiologist for any discrepancies.
- Properly identify and assist patients, offering a brief explanation of the procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures with full explanations and document on appropriate worksheets.
- Interview patients for a complete medical history, reviewing electronic medical records to obtain pertinent clinical history.
- Record medical history on requisitions and correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
- Assume responsibility for the exam from start until the completion of dictated results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols and record contrast type and amount as needed.
- Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if necessary.
- Recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed.
- Perform basic patient care functions and inform appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition.
- Initiate life support measures when necessary and assist in code blue procedures during medical emergencies.
- Perform MRI scanning and assist physicians or physician assistants during invasive procedures.
- Practice proper sterile techniques when preparing supplies and perform all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies.
- Obtain medication or contrast material for administration by a licensed practitioner and practice radiation safety principles.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering.
- Maintain knowledge and skills to work safely in environments with exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.
- Attend in-service classes and complete all required safety modules.
- Operate radiology computer systems for entering orders and charging procedures/supplies and document contrast administration appropriately.
- Maintain assigned work area, keeping it stocked and clean to promote workplace cleanliness.
- Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan.
- Maintain knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields.
- Perform moderate to heavy physical tasks, such as lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies, with occasional standing, walking, and sitting.
